2 Asian Heart and Vascular Symposium The Asian Heart and Vascular Symposium will present the newest clinically relevant information available on heart and vascular diseases in the Asian American population for practicing cardiologists and other healthcare professionals. Faculty will review results of recent studies in the larger Asian American populations South Asians, East Asians, and Filipinos - on coronary artery disease, major risk factors including hypertension and the metabolic syndrome, intracranial and hemorrhagic strokes, pharmacogenetics in the Asian population, sudden cardiac death and Brugada s Syndrome, and Takotsubo's cardiomyopathy. Recent advances in percutaneous aortic valvular replacement will be presented. There will be a panel discussion for questions and interactions with the faculty after each set of lectures. TARGET AUDIENCE Designed for primary care physicians, cardiologists, neurologists, vascular surgeons, medical students, nurses, and pharmacists who provide care to Asian patients in a variety of settings. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES Upon completion of the activity an attendee will be able to: Recognize the increasing diversity that comprises the Asian population and discuss the epidemiology of CVD and its risk factors in the Asian subpopulations; Disseminate the knowledge of prevalence and control of conventional risk factors in the Asian and Pacific Islander population; Increase acuity and awareness of the higher incidence of stroke and intracranial hemorrhage in Asians; Participate in the Health Care Reform debate as it impacts the Asian Pacific Islander population and communities; Improve detection and workup of sudden cardiac death and Brugada s Syndrome in Asian patients; Incorporate current research and improve cultural competence in working with different ethnic populations; Increase competence in the management and identification of cardiac and valvular diseases in the immigrant Vietnamese population and Takotsubo's Disease or Stress Balloon Apical Cardiomyopathy. ACCREDITATION The University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UCSF designates this educational activity for a maximum of 6.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) TM. Physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This CME activity meets the requirements under California Assembly Bill 1195, continuing education and cultural and linguistic competency. For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME.
