Cranial and brain AO neurosurgeons also collaborate with their AOSpine colleagues to bring you the latest developments in combined brain and spinal cord trauma. Cranial neurological surgeons cooperate with their craniomaxillofacial colleagues in the areas of facial and cranial trauma, congenital craniofacial anomalies, skull base trauma, skull base surgery and oncologic surgery and reconstruction. 4 4 AONeuro Course Neurotrauma Goal of the course The AO Neuro Course in neurotrauma covers the anatomical, physiological and surgical principles of managing neurotrauma especially related to brain by informative interactive lectures and case-based discussion. This will also be accompanied by practical workshop on intercranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, decompressive and reconstructive procedures. Target participants All neurosurgeons, CMF surgeons, trauma surgeons (military and civilian), emergency, allied staff, and trainees involved in the management of the neurotrauma patient. Course objectives After the course participants will be better able to: - Identify the pathophysiology and clinical manifestation of brain injury - Plan and perform the best operative approaches necessary for their treatment - Manage all varieties of neurotrauma with proper monitoring and operative procedures Course description This course covers anatomical principles and pathophysiology of cranial trauma. All major issues related to emergency management, critical care, decompressive procedures and reconstruction are explored over 3 days of interactive sessions. The program also includes evaluation of recent treatment methods and trials in neurotrauma. There is a module of practical workshop on ICP monitoring, decompressive and reconstructive procedures. Case-based discussion during the course links the lecture material and practical skills with the clinical problems encountered in real practice.
