4 Supervisor: Mike Brook, Ph.D Graduate Research Assistant, University of Illinois at Chicago Department of Psychiatry, University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center Assist in research that combines a novel MRI technique (mcdespot: multicomponent driven equilibrium single pulse observation of T1 & T2) to interrogate white matter microstructure and pathologies to determine the most robust biomarker of vascular risk and cognition in geriatric and geriatric minority populations at a part of the Vascular Integrity to Advance Longevity (VITALS) study. Analyze data using SPSS and Conn- fmri software as it related to the impact of vascular risk factors including blood pressure, cholesterol (total serum, HLD, LDL), fasting blood glucose and HgAIC on cognitive abilities as measured by a full neuropsychological testing battery as well as white matter integrity using traditional MRI, DTI and mcdespot techniques. Supervisor: Melissa Lamar, Ph.D Graduate Research Assistant, University of Chicago Department of Psychiatry Analyzed fmri data related to the auditory and visual processes with emphasis on understanding implications in neuropsychiatric disorders that have uncontrolled stimuli processing such as hallucinations. Used Unix based operating system to access data files, which required understanding and fluency with command lines and coding, including masking, and voxel identification. Employed AFNI software to correctly identify ROI s and label appropriate regions. Utilized Excel as well as SPSS software to complete correlations as well as multivariate analysis of variance measures. Supervisor: Dr. Sarah Keedy, Ph.D Research Assistant, Clarkson University Department of Cognitive Neuroscience Conducted experiments concerning neural mechanisms of attentional bias and threat detection associated with perceived somatosensory threats with clinical implications in pain and somatoform disorders. Measured and analyzed subject s reaction times to threatening visual stimuli utilizing Eprime software. Analyzed literature research and discussed implications to determine past findings as well as direction and parameters of new research. Earned university recognition and award for Excellence In Undergraduate Research.
