1 Geriatric Update December 7-8, 2017 Location Naegele Auditorium & Specialty Center 3800 Park Nicollet Boulevard St. Louis Park, Minn. (View map and directions) Audience This program is designed for primary care physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Nurses and other members of the care team may also find it beneficial. Conference overview According to the U.S. Census Bureau National Projections, the number of aging adults living in the Unites States is reaching record heights. The population of those 65 and older is estimated to hit 83.7 million in 2050, almost double this group s population of 43.1 million in This increase presents distinct challenges to health care systems and clinicians. Practicing evidence-based medical care and implementing public health efforts can help promote and preserve the health of older adults. Elderly patients face an array of complex medical and social issues. The sheer number and types of settings in which primary care clinicians deliver care to the elderly, as well as the scope of disabilities and chronic diseases present in these patients, impact daily clinical practice. This Geriatric Update highlights current resources and practical approaches to improve health outcomes for geriatric patients. Experts will present lectures on new screening tools, medication reviews, communication strategies, case studies and more. To encourage participation and active learning, the conference uses an interactive audience-response system (ARS).
2 Educational objectives Following this learning activity, participants will be able to: Formulate strategies for improving health outcomes in elderly patients with behavioral health concerns Apply clinical advances to evaluate, treat and monitor chronic health conditions in the elderly, such as dementia, delirium, incontinence, insomnia, osteoporosis, pain, sleep apnea and wounds Assess ethical and cultural issues in decisions concerning aging and end-of-life treatment Cost/Registration Registration includes continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments. Presentations will be available for download from the conference website. Participants have the option of purchasing a printed syllabus for $40; see registration form to order. Temperature in the meeting room varies. For your comfort, we suggest you bring a sweater or jacket. If you have any special needs or dietary requirements, please notify us when registering so we can make arrangements to accommodate you.
