3 AOSpine Principles Course, June 7 8, 2012, Lucerne, Switzerland 3 Welcome to Lucerne Dear colleagues, AOSpine counts surgeons, researchers, ORP, and any healthcare professionals interested in spine from all fi ve continents among its members and includes some of the world s foremost experts and thinkers in the fi eld of spine surgery. We are a member-oriented, member-driven organization it is the elected members (internally called offi cers) that lead and provide direction. Every AOSpine member is free to choose to actively participate and contribute to the atmosphere of collaboration, cooperation, and mentorship within AOSpine. It is through the AOSpine regional boards and the individual AOSpine country councils (which are the administrative teams for the AOSpine country chapters) that members have the opportunity to voice their concerns or suggestions directly to AOSpine. AOSpine can provide educational, research, consulting, and networking opportunities to enrich the knowledge and enhance the career of any spine surgeon. AOSpine invests in spine research and offers state-of-the-art training courses, as well as fellowship programs and congresses which augment a surgeon s knowledge of spine principles and techniques, and enabling him or her to establish and nurture professional relationships within their country and around the world. Our purpose and responsibility is to shape our members skills and understanding of spine principles; to establish new values and incentives for the creation of knowledge, the sharing of wisdom, and the development of new tools and techniques that improve patient care, patient outcomes, and the cost effectiveness of spine surgery.
