2 SOCIAL GERONTOLOGY Gerontology is the study of the biological, psychological, and social aspects of aging. Social gerontology is a subfield of gerontology that focuses on the social as opposed to the physical or biological aspects of aging (Quadagno). Beyond health problems and social issues Wider than social determinants of health Older LGBT communities special needs Family caregivers, health network partners and workers Structuring factors of at-home community-based care Older adults isolation and use of new technologies Construction of the urban territory HIV and aging CREGÉS

4 INTEGRATION OF RESEARCH INTO PRACTICE Close partnership between research and practice, including managers Research-practitioners (RP) and CREGÉS member managers participate in the decision-making process on an equal basis with the researchers. Internal research policy that encourages researchers to collaborate with RP, managers and other practitioners from the very beginning of a research project. CREGÉS

12 EXAMPLE OF THE REPERCUSSIONS OF RESEARCH ON PRACTICE Management practices for hospice palliative care volunteers Patrick Durivage, Isabelle Van Pevenage & Carole Couturier This guide is a reference tool for coordinators of hospice palliative care volunteers, as well as anyone involved in volunteer supervision. Project founded by the Quebec Health and Social Services Ministry after a call for proposals to which the CREGÉS submitted an application during the summer of CREGÉS
