PURPOSE The purpose of this joint program is to provide practicing physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other health care professionals an update regarding selected topics of importance integrating Family Medicine and Psychiatry. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES Following this activity, participants should be able to: Tap into a patient s innate ability to recover from psychological and physical adversity. Identify and choose the rehabilitation modalities and care plans used to rehabilitate common neurological injuries. Use ancillary resources to deal with psychological and social issues facing neurologically impaired patients. Identify and use the skills of their Family Medicine colleagues in creating a multidisciplinary team approach with their patients. Respond appropriately to a patient with stroke symptoms and participate in a team approach to treat a stroke patient. Conduct a meaningful brief neurological examination and interpret its significance. Order appropriate imaging to evaluate patients with common neurological conditions. Identify and treat depression in post-stroke patients. Employ an important tool for differentiating neurological injury from psychological and emotional injury in appropriately selected patients.
