You will walk away with a good understanding of the causes of Alzheimer s disease and how treatments attempt to target the causes of the disease. The learner will be able to translate research into treatment and interventions FRIDAY, 8:00 9:30 am EDUCATION SESSION Understanding Memory and Memory Dysfunction Brandon Ally, Ph.D. 1. The learner will understand the fundamentals of how human memory works 2. The learner will understand the different types of human memory 3. The learner will understand the pathophysiology of different memory disorders 4. The learner will understand the clinical aspects of different memory disorders Dr. Brandon Ally began his research on the early detection of Alzheimer's disease using event-related potentials and cognitive assessment techniques. After graduate school, Dr. Ally completed a clinical internship and postdoctoral fellowship in geriatric neuropsychology at the Harvard Medical School Geriatric Neuropsychology Lab. In addition, he completed a 3-year research fellowship in cognitive neuroscience at Harvard Medical School and the Boston University Alzheimer s Disease Center. Dr. Ally is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology and the Alzheimer s Disease Center at Boston University. He is also the Director of Neuropsychology Research at the Center for Translational Cognitive Neuroscience at the Bedford, MA VA Hospital.

Simpkins is an internationally recognized expert on brain aging and therapy for age-related brain disorders. He has authored 291 scientific papers on this subject and holds more than 20 patents for his discoveries. Dr. Simpkins is currently the Chair of the Department of Pharmacology & Neuroscience and the Director of the Institute for Aging and Alzheimer s Disease Research at the university of North Texas Health Science Center.
