3 Activity Information Course Description The field of clinical and anatomic pathology is constantly changing. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in the field to develop classification schemes or other guidelines to aid in the identification of specific conditions. These classification schemes or guidelines have been developed by committees of experts and most pathologists are not familiar with the specific recommendations, making it difficult to apply to practice. This conference is intended to address the identified learning gaps and provide pathologists the tools necessary to comply with the current standards of practice. Evidence-based data will be presented by each faculty in his or her area of expertise. The conference will address a wide range of topics in anatomic and clinical pathology and will explore new and evolving areas in the diagnosis and analysis of disease. It aims to provide the latest practical and theoretical information that will aid the practicing pathologist in solving those problems most often encountered in the anatomic pathology laboratory. Educational Objectives Improve evaluation of skin biopsies so that over diagnoses of melanoma are avoided Design diagnostic criteria that help distinguish thymoma from mediastinal lymphoma Analyze liver biopsies using criteria that allow for the distinction between immunocholestatic liver disorders and drug reactions Judge pathologic features that allow for the classification of thymomas Evaluate newly described pathologic features in ovarian tumors for improved patient outcomes Use the new criteria to stage urologic malignancies for improved outcomes Assess the role that new molecular tests play in improving patient safety Accreditation Statement is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Credit Designation Statement designates this educational activity for a maximum of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM.
