2 General Information Statement of Educational Need A primary care practitioner often serves as the patient s first point of entry into the health care system and as the continuing focal point for all needed health care services. Consequently, primary care physicians devote the majority of their practice to providing service for medical needs not limited by problem origin, organ system or diagnosis. This very broad continuum of services creates a unique set of educational needs for primary care physicians in which they need to be aware of innovations, discoveries, and changes in their approaches to diagnosis, care, and management of primary care patients. This conference will serve to meet these needs by providing a broad update in various topics within Primary Care. Target Audience and Purpose The purpose of this program is to provide primary care and family medicine physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants reviews of and updates in knowledge in various fields of medicine. Objectives Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to: describe recent developments in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases commonly dealt with in primary care practice evaluate and implement appropriate therapy in major subspecialties including cardiology, endocrinology, pediatrics, and geriatrics develop effective approaches to difficult problems in the areas of diabetes, coronary artery disease and depression identify the major issues in the treatment of geriatric patients Registration Fees Your registration fee includes your attendance at all sessions, the course syllabus, continuing medical education credits, and daily continental breakfast, lunch and refreshment breaks. Full time Vanderbilt Division of General Internal faculty are exempt from paying registration fees. However, due to limited seating, pre-registration is required. Exempt registrants may purchase a course syllabus and/or lunch for each day. To do so, please contact Katy McCain at Please see the registration form for fees. Cancellation If you must cancel your registration for this course, Vanderbilt CME will refund your registration fee, less $50, provided you notify us prior to Monday, April 16, No refunds will be made after that date. Exceptions will be made for justifiable emergencies. Registration may be transferred to another person or to another course date. In the event of cancellation or rescheduling of this CME activity due to unforeseen circumstances, Vanderbilt University will refund registration fees in full. Vanderbilt University is not responsible for non-transferable, non-refundable airline tickets or hotel accommodations purchased in connection with attendance at this CME activity. Accreditation is accredited by the Accreditation Council for CME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Credit Designation designates this educational activity for a maximum of 26 category 1 credits toward the AMA Physician s Recognition Award TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians.
