3 Statement of Need: There is a lack of awareness of best-practice paradigms in the general community of the healthcare team pertaining to the diagnosis and appropriate treatment for commonly encountered spinal conditions. The proposed CME activity will aide in closing these practice gaps by identifying best practice methods for the diagnosis and management of spinal conditions. Program Objectives: All CME activities are intended to improve patient care, safety and outcomes. At the conclusion of this conference participants should be able to: Evaluate patients based on their presenting symptoms and conduct a diagnostic work-up in order to determine the diagnosis and treatment plan. Initiate appropriate treatment algorithms (non-surgical and surgical) when managing patients with different spinal conditions. Recognize spinal conditions that require urgent intervention and referral to a spine specialist. Compose a treatment plan inclusive of the healthcare team to effectively treat patients with spinal conditions. Assess the needs of patients with spinal conditions for pre-surgery and post-operative care. Target Audience: MDs, DOs, PAs, NPs, RNs, Pharmacists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Athletic Trainers. CME Accreditation: is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Credit Designation: designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 6.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Physical Therapy Credit: Plainview Hospital, member of the System, is recognized by the New York State Education Department s State Board for Physical Therapy as an approved provider of physical therapy and physical therapist assistant continuing education. Participants will receive a certificate at the completion of the conference for 8.0 contact hours. Occupational Therapy Credit: Rehabilitation Network is recognized by the NBCOT as a Professional Development Provider. Upon completion of this activity, a completion certificate of 6.7 contact hours will be ed to those of the corresponding disciplines. Participants should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Athletic Trainer Credit: Rehabilitation Network (BOC AP#: P8350) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Certified Athletic Trainers. This program is eligible for a maximum of 6.7 Category A hours/ceus. Upon completion of this activity, a completion certificate will be ed to those of the corresponding disciplines. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program. Nursing Credit: The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) will accept 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit as equal to 1.0 ANCC contact hour. Nurses should inquire with their specialty organizations and professional institutions as to their acceptance of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Verification of Attendance: Will be provided to all professionals.
