2 Course Description SexMeD is a state of the art training program devoted to sexual health, utilizing medical expertise in conjunction with the principles and practices of sex therapy and sexuality counseling. It is comprehensive and helpful, both for those in the medical field, who will learn insightful limited interventions as well as psychotherapists discussing organic and medical issues during sex therapy clinical sessions. All health care professionals including physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, therapists and counselors will benefit from this innovative program. Course Topics 1. Sexually Transmitted Infections: Medical and Psychological Issues 2. The Principles of Consultation, Collaboration and Referral in a Medical Sex Therapy Practice 3. Gender-Identity Issues in Sex Therapy, LGBT The participant will receive a strong fundamental background in the psychological aspects of sex therapy combined with the foundations of biological and physiological aspects of sexual medicine. In depth discussion will reiterate the biological, physiological, hormonal, relational, psychological and social basis of sexual function and dysfunction. The program directors will present an integrated treatment approach to the fundamentals of male and female sexual dysfunction, incorporating the principle facets of medical and psychological treatment paradigms. 4. Treatment of Diverse Sexual Populations: Paraphilia, BDSM, Sadomasochism, Alternative Lifestyles This is one of two courses that lead toward satisfying the requirements of the Florida Health Department statutes governing the use of the title Sex Therapist. Additionally, all CE credits are approved by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). 7. Legal, Ethical & Forensic Issues in Sex Therapy, Discussion of Sex Offender Treatment Completion of this course does not guarantee certification or approval by AASECT. It is strongly recommended that the participant consult with the AASECT website ( to review the criteria for certification as an AASECT Sex Therapist or Sexuality Counselor. 5. Interaction Between Sexuality and the Dynamics of Interpersonal and Family Relationships 6. Treatment of Victims of Sexual Abuse and Domestic Violence: Psycho-Sexual and Medical Treatment Methods 8. 3 Educational Objectives Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to: 1. Recognize the major bio-psycho-social forces that shape sexual functioning. 2. Learn the criteria for assessment and diagnosis of psychosexual disorders as described in the current edition of the DSM Understand the dynamics of interpersonal relationships, including the socio-cultural factors influencing sexual values and behavior, and specify ways to encourage loving relationships between partners and with in families. 4. Appreciate the variety of sexual orientation, gender identities and gender related issues, as well as the importance of ensuring basic ethics and sexual rights. 5. Differentiate between physical and psychological causes of sexual dysfunction. 6. Assess the impact of disease, medication and drugs on sexual functioning and relationships, including medical factors that influence sexuality including illness, disability, drugs, pregnancy and lactation. 7. Learn the history of sexology, as well as the latest research in sexual medicine. 8. Understand sexual health issues, including safer sex practices and the effects of substance abuse on sexuality. 9. Understand the psycho-sexual treatment methods for victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. 10. Understand the immediate and deeper issues underlying sexual dysfunction. 11. Explain atypical sexual behaviors, including paraphilia and compulsive sexual behavior. 12. Learn theory and methods of sexuality counseling and psychotherapy, including several different models. 13. Understand the theory and methods of approach to intervention in relationship systems experiencing sex and intimacy problems. 14. Learn the theory and method of approach to medical intervention in the evaluation and treatment of psychosexual disorders. 15. Understand the principals of consultation, collaboration, and referral in a medical sex therapy practice. 16. Discuss techniques for evaluating clinical outcomes. 17. Gain practical experience, i.e., exposure to treatment of clinical cases through observation, demonstration, videotape presentations role-playing, etc. 18. Present a full sex therapy case. Case Supervision Supervision is available both during the course and upon completion of this course. Clinical Case Supervision will be available from Dr. Michael Krychman or Dr. Richard Siegel. The supervision will require separate scheduling and payment and the supervisor and supervisee will require a separate executed contract with (and membership in) AASECT to be in place prior to beginning the supervision hours.

4 About The Presenters MICHAEL L. KRYCHMAN, MD. is the Executive Director of the Southern California Center for Sexual Health and Survivorship Medicine located in Newport Beach California. He is the former Co Director of The Sexual Medicine and Rehabilitation Program at Memorial Sloan- Kettering Cancer. He is a clinical sexologist and has completed a Masters in Public Health and Human Sexuality. Dr Krychman has a degree in Erotology, Sexual Education and Forensic Sexology. Dr Krychman is an AASECT Certified Sexuality Counselor. He is on faculty at University of Southern California. His special interests include sexual pain disorders, loss of libido, chronic medical illness and its impact on female sexual function as well as breast cancer sexuality. ALYSSA DWECK MS MD FACOG is a board certified practicing gynecologist in Westchester County, NY. She is an assistant clinical professor department ob/gyn at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and consultant at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Vincent s Memorial Ob/Gyn Service. She holds a master s degree in human nutrition from Columbia University. She is a graduate of the 2012 program and has incorporated medical sex therapy into her clinical practice. RICHARD M. SIEGEL, MS, LMHC, CST, CSST is a Florida-licensed mental health counselor, certified sex therapist, and is certified by AASECT as a sex therapist and a supervisor of sexuality practitioners. He is the Director/CEO of Modern Institutes for Sex Therapy Training. He has a rich experiential background, including over 20 years working in sexuality education, addiction, and in private practice. He has worked enthusiastically to integrate traditional sex therapy into the emergent specialty of sexual medicine.

(1) Intent. Whereas the provision of clinical, counseling, and psychotherapy services may include sex therapy, it is the intent of the Board to assure that those clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and mental health counselors who hold themselves out to the public as sex therapists have completed a minimum level of training in the specific area of sex therapy and the general provision of clinical, counseling and psychotherapy services. (2) Use of the Title Sex Therapist. Any licensed clinical social worker, marriage and family therapist, or mental health counselor who holds himself out as a sex therapist shall have completed: (a) A minimum of 120 hours of approved education which meets the continuing education requirements of Rule Chapter , F.A.C., from twelve (12) of the following areas with a minimum of 10 hours in each area taken: 1. Sexual and reproductive anatomy and physiology. 2. Developmental sexuality. 3. Gender-identity issues. 4. Socio-cultural factors in sexual values and behavior. 5. Medical factors related to sexuality and sexual functioning. 6. Interaction between sexuality and dynamics of interpersonal and family relationships. 7. Sexual offender treatment. 8. Diagnosis of sexual dysfunctions, disorders, and deviancy. 9. Treatment or sexual dysfunctions, disorders, and deviancy. 10. Legal, ethical, and forensic issues in sex therapy. 11. Sexually transmitted diseases. 12. Risk assessment with sex offenders. 13. Psychopharmacology use with sexual dysfunctions, disorders and deviancy. 14. Research on sexual dysfunctions, disorders and deviancy. 15, Sexual abuse treatment. 16. Victimology/victim therapy. 17. Group therapy in treatment of sexual dysfunctions disorders. and deviancy; and (b) As of January 1, 1997, in addition to the minimum hours in paragraph (2)(a) of this rule, the following shall apply: 1. A minimum of 40 client contact hours in the clinical practice of sex therapy during a minimum period of time of six months; 2. A minimum of 20 hours of supervision, where each supervisory session is no more than one and one-half hours in length. by a qualified supervisor as set forth in Rule , F.A.C., during a minimum period of time of six months. 3. For the purpose of this section, supervision is face-to-face contact between an intern or trainee and a supervisor during which the applicant apprises the supervisor of the diagnosis and treatment of each sex therapy client, client cases are discussed, the supervisor provides the applicant with oversight and guidance in diagnosing, treating and dealing with sex therapy clients, and the supervisor evaluates the applicant s performance.
