Youth Services Include: We re here to help. Minor in Possession Programs...Youth who receive a Minor in Possession (MIP) alcohol citation from law enforcement are usually required by the courts to take an MIP Education Class. ARC offers this class once per month for youth and their parents or caregivers. Community Service...Connects youth to meaningful, supervised projects in order to better integrate them in to our community as well as to teach job and life skills. Parenting Services and Resources...Alcohol & Drug Services Prevention Specialists work closely with many community members to develop strategies to prevent harm for the youth of Gallatin County. 4 Vaping (the use of e-cigarettes) popular among teens Monitoring the Future is an annual survey of 8th, 10th, and 12th graders conducted by researchers at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, under a grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. In 2017, more than 43,000 students from 360 public schools and private schools across the nation participated in the survey. According to the latest results, almost 30 percent of 12th graders reported using some kind of vaping device within the past year. And out of that group, a little more than 11 percent said they had vaped marijuana or hash oil. E-cigarettes are the most commonly used vaping device, and e-cigarettes have some of the lowest levels of perceived risk of any substance. Vaporizers are a rapidly changing market with upgrades to the equipment and can be used to smoke marijuana or wax, hash oil and are available at most smoke shops, head and bong shops. The survey asked teens about any vaping to measure their use of electronic vaporizers. It is important to note that some research suggests that many teens do not actually know what is in the device they are using. Around 20% of seniors are reporting that they are vaping nicotine and 10% are vaping the active ingredient of marijuana. Studies have started to emerge that shows that kids that start vaping nicotine are at much greater risk in subsequent years, to actually start smoking cigarettes. And with respect to Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) levels, when you vape THC, you can actually vape at a very high concentration. And the higher the concentration of THC, the higher the likelihood of addiction and adverse medical consequences when users are regularly exposing themselves to high doses.
