8 PUBLIC NOTICE COMMISSION AND BOARD RECRUITMENTS The Corte Madera Town Council is requesting applications from Corte Madera citizens who may be interested in serving on the Town s Planning Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, Flood Control Board, and Accessibility Advisory Commission. With few exceptions, all Corte Madera residents who are registered voters of the Town are eligible to apply for appointment. The Planning Commission is a vital component of our community. It is a five member body to oversee the Town s planning process. Currently the two-year terms of two (2) Commissioners will expire on June 30, Much of the Commission s time is devoted to reviewing permit applications for home remodels and additions. The Commission works to balance the needs of individual families for more living space with the need to protect neighborhood character. The Planning Commission also works on longer range issues. The Commission meets twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month in the Council Chambers at 7:30 p.m. The Parks and Recreation Commission is an advisory board that recommends policy and procedures for parks and recreational facilities, recreation programs, park development and park maintenance. The two-year terms of four (4) Commissioners and one (1) Youth Commissioner are expiring on June 30, Meetings are held on the 4 th Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The Commission is also involved with the State s Recreation and Parks Society. The Youth Commissioner Seat is open to applicants who are high school students under the age of 18 who wish to serve their community as the voice of the community s youth regarding Parks and Recreation events and activities. The Flood Control Board advises the Town Council on all matters affecting flooding in Corte Madera. Examples of duties of the board are to review and report on the flooding impact of current and proposed flood control and storm drain projects, and to review and report on flood management plans in order to define what actions are necessary to reduce flood conditions in the Town. The two-year terms of four (4) Board members are expiring on June 30, The Flood Control Board meets the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers at Town Hall. Town of Corte Madera Representative to the Marin/Sonoma Mosquito & Vector Abatement District (2-year term) The main purpose of the Board of Trustees of the MSMVCD is to organize and carry out an effective mosquito and vector control program and to develop a budget adequate to staff and support the program. Preference for the appointment will be given to a person with strong interest in the prevention, elimination or control of mosquitoes and other arthropods known to be potential carriers of infectious diseases, or presenting a public nuisance. The Board of Trustees meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at District Headquarters, 595 Helman Lane, Cotati, CA.

The commission meets monthly on weekdays during the daytime hours. The Commission on Aging is a federally mandated advisory whose mission is to promote the dignity, independence and quality of life of older persons through advocacy, information, programs and services. Appointees are expected to have an active interest and a willingness to become knowledgeable about the needs and concerns of Marin s elderly residents, whether they are living in their own homes or in institutions and those caring for them in the community. Reneson Hotels, Inc., is proposing to demolish the existing Corte Madera Inn, a 110-room Best Western affiliated hotel, and the adjacent restaurant (approximately 82,000 sq. ft. of floor area in total), fill the.64 acre pond on the site, and construct a new 174-room, 127,000 sq. ft. hotel. The proposed hotel facility would include a 3,600 square foot conference area (for up to 300 people), lounge and dining area for hotel guests, a business center, a fitness center, public restrooms, and two board meeting rooms. A swimming pool and spa, basketball court, outdoor seating areas, an artificial pond, and landscaped areas would also be provided as amenities for hotel guests. Parking would be provided for 235 vehicles. Portions of the hotel structure would be two-stories and other portions would be three-stories. The maximum height of the building would be 35 ft., although roof elements would reach approximately 37 ft. in height. 16 Pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act, an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) was prepared for the proposed project. At its April 26, 2016 meeting, after a series of public hearings regarding the Corte Madera Inn Rebuild proposed project, the Planning Commission recommended that the Town Council certify the EIR by adopting Resolution Subsequently, photographic evidence indicating presence of widgeongrass at the on-site pond was presented to the Planning Department and it was determined that due to the identification of a new potential significant impact, the Biological Resources section of the EIR required recirculation for public comment. The public comments, and the Planning Department s responses to public comments, are included in a revised Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR).
