3 Nicotine Dependence Raises mood Reduces anxiety For those accustomed to it, it increases alertness Over time, it causes changes in smokers brains that makes them need nicotine. Call: Visit: BHS. Change your environment Get rid of ALL tobacco products, ashtrays, spit cups or other items needed to support your tobacco use. Don't let people smoke or use smokeless tobacco in your home. All rights reserved. 13 Be Prepared for Relapse or Difficult Situations Tobacco cessation is most likely not something you'll try once. Relapse is a normal part of the process, not a sign of failure. Most relapses occur within the first three months after quitting. Don't be discouraged if you return to your habit.
