1 HEALTH PROMOTION SERVICE QUARTERLY REPORT (Q3) PROJECT TITLE: Workplace Health Oct Dec 11 (Q3) Outcomes and behavioural goals planned Continue to raise awareness of the benefits of healthier workplaces and promote the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Healthy Workplace Award. Outcomes and behavioural goals achieved Discussed all evidence base and benefits of a healthier workplace with 20 new businesses face to face that have shown an interest in working towards the Healthy Workplace Award. Variance Action Plan to address any variance Promoted and engaged with a wide range of businesses and partners in in relation to workplace activities For example: - Newsletters, press releases, events such as the Cornwall Sustainability Awards, - Presentations to businesses and at conferences (ECEHH) - Organisation of events i.e. HSE Stress Management Competency Road-show - Contributed to strategies - Attendance at regional Healthy Workplace Leads

2 Continue to support businesses and workplaces in becoming healthier workplaces and recruit 15 new local businesses to the scheme. meetings and Business Awards 30 Healthy Workplace Award visits and assessment reports have been carried out. In 2011 to date: 8 - Achieved Bronze Award Level 11 - Achieved Silver Award Level 7 - Achieved Gold Award Level Continued to work with all businesses working towards the award and met with 20 new businesses. + 5 Encourage 15 local businesses to register on the new Workplace Health Website 14 businesses have registered as members on the website. (Total now = 82). -1 Investigate, develop and produce workplace health resources and/or training courses dependent on the needs of the identified by local businesses and workplaces. The 7 th Edition of the Workplace Health E-Bulletin was produced and distributed on 1 st December new addition is being investigated for the Physical Activity & Sport

3 Offer Penzance Tennis Centre. Website data: Number of visitors = 1440 (Oct = 543, Nov = 514, Dec = 383) Number of pages = 10,134 (Oct = 3584, Nov = 4445, Dec = 2105). The Breast Cancer Specialist Nurse delivered an awareness session for St Ives School on 6 th December following investigation in to local specialist support and advice available. The 2012 Cornwall Beach Games has been set for Friday 25 th May 2012 and save the date has been sent to all business contacts. Following feedback from businesses and to promote and increase the sharing of good practice and networking an online forum has been developed on the behealthyatwork.org website. Also following requests from businesses a multiply log-in

4 function has been added to the website. Make 3 appropriate referrals to partner projects within the Health Promotion Service in delivering support in the workplace setting Appropriate referrals made: Health Checks = See Healthy Weight Q3 report for detail. New referrals made for the future = 1 new company Mental Health & Stress Training = The stress in the workplace training was delivered in 8 companies. Total number of staff trained: 100 New referrals made for the future = 4 companies. Weight Management Groups = See Healthy Weight Q3 report for detail. One 2 hour Healthy Eating Advice session was offered to 1 company. New referrals made to SunSafe = 15.

5 Initiate the planning of the annual celebration - Healthy Workplace Ceremony Work towards strengthening the partnerships between the NHS Trusts and Cornwall Council and ensure all NHS Trusts and Cornwall Council are working towards the Healthy Workplace Award. The Annual Healthy Workplace Awards is booked for Friday 2 nd March 2012 at the Pavilion Centre, Royal Cornwall Showground. Dame Carol Black, National Director for Work & Health has been confirmed as the keynote speaker and award presenter as well as the Director of Public Health to open the event. 5 companies have been approached to present at the Five Minutes of Fame. 30 Healthy Workplace Assessments Visits have been completed in preparation for the Award Event and all companies have been asked to produce a case study for the Wall of Fame. Catering, Audio, PR & Photography has all been booked. The award invitations were sent out on 20 th December Health Champions from Cornwall Council have attended the RSPH Level II Health Improvement courses (Training delivered October & November 2011). The Healthy Workplace Award

6 Assessment was conducted for Cornwall Council on 14 th December 2011 and Silver Award Level was achieved. A draft strategy and action plan has been developed by RCHT and goes to the Board in January A Healthy Workplace Assessment visit was conducted on the 16/12/11 Bronze Award Level was achieved. A Healthy Workplace Assessment Visit for PCH & PCT took place on the 24/10/11 and both achieved Silver Award Level. Partners worked with this Q, incl HPS Companies in Cornwall & Isles of Scilly (Public, Private & voluntary Sector) Cornwall Sports Partnership Cornwall Chamber of Commerce HSE Scotland Plymouth Business Health Network Health Promotion Colleagues Cornwall Council Cornwall College Cornwall Foundation Trust RCHT ECEHH European Centre for Environment & Human Health Peninsula Public Health Network

Promote Workplace Health Strategically by attending at least 4 meetings Make 3 appropriate referrals to partner projects within the Health Promotion Service in delivering support in the workplace setting Hold the Annual Celebratory Healthy Workplace Awards Event Aim to present 25 local businesses with the Healthy Workplace Award Launch the new Innovation Award

8 Ensure all NHS Trusts and Cornwall Council are working towards the Healthy Workplace Award with the aim of all NHS Trusts and Cornwall Council achieving at least a Silver Award.
