4 Our Story Consejo is an award-winning agency that has provided over 35 years of culturally-competent services to a growing yet still underserved Latino community. Our demonstrated outcomes providing equitable, efficient and effective care have established a noteworthy reputation across Washington State and beyond. In Spanish, the word Consejo means advice. Our logo depicts a Maya leader whispering words of wisdom. To us, this signifies the importance of Latino ancestral cultural values as inspiration for living successfully in contemporary American society.

5 History in Pierce County Since 2005, Consejo has provided outpatient substance abuse services for the youth population in Pierce County. We began with one service provider. Now, we employ 6 CD counselors, a case manager and a fully accredited CD supervisor in Consejo s Tacoma/Pierce County office. Staff is culturally and linguistically diverse, all having experience working with Latino and other underserved populations Services are provided both at our Tacoma Office in several schools across the city and county.

6 Services Offered in Pierce County Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment for Youth & Case Management Services Culturally and Linguistically Competent Services Comprehensive Alcohol and Drug Assessment Individualized service plans in accordance with criteria of American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC) Treatment Plan Reviews at 30,60 and 90 days of treatment Group Counseling Services Individual and Family Counseling Services Youth and Family Case Management Services

7 Services Offered in Pierce County (cont d) Transportation as needed to assure delivery of service Urine Analysis Referral to other needed services such as mental health and high risk youth Collaboration with schools, juvenile court and probation officers Community outreach and education In-home case management services Family support and advocacy No charge for clients meeting Federal Poverty Guidelines After-school snacks

8 Youth Treatment Outcomes YOUTH TREATMENT OUTCOMES 1. Clients will have a reduction in use of primary substance of choice in the last 30 days prior discharge 2. Clients will be enrolled in school at the time of discharge CONTRACT REQUIRME NT GOAL YEAR TO DATE PERCENTAGE ACHIEVED COMMENTS 60% 73.7% Clients enrolled in treatment for this period demonstrated substances abuse reduction. 75% 89.5% As of the beginning of the school year most of Consejo clients were enrolled or re-enrolled in school

9 Youth Treatment Outcomes YOUTH TREATMENT OUTCOMES 3.Clients who remain in school shall demonstrate improved academic performance. 4. Clients will be retained in treatment for 90 days. CONTRACT REQUIRME NT GOAL YEAR TO DATE % ACHIEVED 60% 68.4% (This is including Summer Break) 65% Retention Rate 85.2% As of August 2013 COMMENTS Clients who stayed in school/treatment for longer periods of time became involved in social, recreational, sport and academic activities instead of community violence and/or illegal activities Clients enrolled in treatment with activity for a longer period of time reported greater stability and reduction of family conflicts or no increase in family problems. Parental involvement was also instrumental in the treatment process

14 Moving forward A successful year in collaboration with City of Tacoma and other providers has allowed Consejo to enhance and deepen its understanding of the complex needs of Tacoma s diverse neighborhoods and to better appreciate the vibrancy and strengths of its rich communities.
