7 January 2013 to June 2014: 1434 patients at Baystate Franklin were identified as having a substance abuse dependency 384 (27%) of those patients were identified as opioid dependent Opioid dependent patients visited the hospital an average of 5.1 times during the 18 month timeframe The average patient without a substance abuse disorder visited the hospital an average of 1.9 times
