1 JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: REPORTS TO: Band: BASE: OBJECTIVES OF POST: Substance Misuse worker Senior Substance Misuse Worker E ERP To provide referral, advice and brief interventions, some structured key working, assessment and a needle exchange service in a variety of settings to those who have experienced problematic drug and/or alcohol use. To participate in the development of the drugs/alcohol service and the attendant systems and practice and to liaise with a variety of internal departments and outside agencies. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Principal accountabilities To function as a part of a team and attend staff meetings as required AA2 BI1 Participate in case conferences and present cases in Multi Disciplinary team meetings, AA2 as required Assist in devising and implementing appropriate systems for ease of administration. Assist in collating all statistics, figures and information, as required, for internal and BE2 external purposes. Act as care coordinator/key worker whilst maintaining a high standard of records and AI3 AI2 case notes. Provide an assessment of need and motivation for clients and risk assessments and make onwards referrals to specialist agencies, where required AA1 AF1 AF2 AF3 AI1 Liaise with appropriate avenues for the delivery of the Tier 2 service e.g. Pharmacies BI5 Liaise with the medical service/part of service and provide motivational support and preparatory work for detoxification when required. AB1 AB2 AB5 AB6 BI5 Assess, develop and review the care plan at regular and agreed intervals to ensure that client s needs are met in an appropriate manner AF1 AF2 AF3 AG1 AG2 AG3 Assist in developing and delivering training packages on substance use and related AD2 AD3 AD4 issues Assist in setting up, in conjunction with other agencies, programmes for those AA3 AB1 AA2 appropriate clients of the agency Provide harm reduction advice and information and a Needle exchange in a variety of settings AB4 Assist in developing and maintaining a library on drugs, alcohol, HIV/Aids and AC1 relevant conditions To assist in the day to day operation of the programme through the delivery of individual key working including assessing risk and ensuring a safe and appropriate environment for all through the prevention and management of abusive and AB1 AB2 AB3 AD1 AI1 AI2 AI3 AJ1 AJ2 aggressive behaviours To abide by The ADS ethical Codes of Practice, developing your own knowledge and AC1 AC2 practice, and participate in management supervision and team meetings so as to fulfil your role as an effective member of the team and with a maximum emphasis on sound practice and case management psychological/psychosocial based techniques; including using Cognitive Behavioural technique for a maximum of 12 sessions AI1 substance misuse worker.docxpage 1 of 7

2 Prepare and support clients during transfer to other services AA3 Provide support to the IPED clinics Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested 2. Safety To ensure all possible steps are being taken to account for personal safety of both staff and clients during working hours. To make the line manager aware of any potential difficulties in the area of personal safety or action to remedy this. Adhere to all ADS Health and Safety policies and procedures, ensuring their own safety and the safety of their colleagues and service users. To be aware of the need for security and regard to locking windows, doors etc. and prompt reporting of any works/repairs to the line manager BD4 AB3 AB3 BD4 3. Supervision and Training Participate in preparing and delivering training for other staff when required. AC3 AD2 Keep personally up-to-date with developments and new initiatives in treatment and AC1 legislation affecting substance misuse and associated issues Participate in regular supervision sessions with the line manager AC1 AC2 To work with the line manager to develop a personal training and development plan. AC1 Participate in the appraisal process and work with the line manager to develop a personal training and development plan Provide an effective learning environment for all learners Attend and participate in training sessions as required both as trainer and trainee. AC1 4. General Assist in the development of new initiatives and new ways of working to promote the best services for substance users. Adhere to the Alcohol and Drug Service Equal Opportunities Policy with regard to both staff and clients of the Alcohol and Drug Service. Safeguarding The Alcohol & Drug Service is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people (anyone under the age of 18) and adults. It expects all staff, volunteers and students to share this commitment and act in such a way that safeguards and promotes the health and well-being of children, young people and adults. Staff must ensure that they are familiar with the signs and symptoms of abuse and know what to do if any such concerns are raised. Staff is expected to follow the safeguarding children and safeguarding adults policies and participate in related mandatory/statutory training. 6. 7 CONDITIONS OF SERVICE Salary Band E Annual Holiday 29 days per annum, rising to 31 after 2 years service and 34 after 5; plus Public Holidays Pension Scheme On joining ADS employees will be issued with a pension pack detailing the terms and conditions of the scheme.
