28 DASH: Lost In Translation The DASH diet has been translated into being low in red meat but the DASH diet was never about red meat. Red meat was reduced in the DASH diet as a means of meeting low total and saturated fat benchmarks 1. The mention of Red Meat occurs in the DASH methods paper and the original DASH manuscript a total of zero times. 2. Emphasis was instead place on including lean meats.
