1 Health Promotion Resource Centre Weight Management Catalogue The Health Promotion Resource Centre is a library service that provides FREE health promotion materials to people working within health, education and other professions. The resources support health promotion campaigns and activities, including training sessions.
2 Guidelines and Reports Code number: 04/NT/08/A Eating well for looked after children and young people The Caroline Walker Trust (2001) These guidelines set out practical and nutritional guidelines to help all those who care for children in residential homes and foster care understand more about eating well for this group. These guidelines will enable carers, and those who monitor care settings, to ensure that the young people have a nutritionally balanced, varied and tasty diet. Reference only It also provides recommendations for linking food knowledge into care and the skills that young people will need when they become independent. Reports and strategic documents - Obesity, Healthy Weight, Healthy Lives, Tackling Child Obesity - First Steps Health Committee (2004), HM Government (2008), Healthcare Commission (2006) Within the reference section there are a number of official reports that look at strategic, national and local provision to tackle obesity in both children and adults.

Children can learn about why a balanced diet is essential for good health, why too much sugar is bad for health and the need to drink plenty of water for good health. The set includes a laminated lunch box, 21 foods and drink laminated pieces and a activity sheets. (5-11 years) Code number: 05/NT/34/A Food for Thought Campaign Information Cards (British Heart Foundation) There are six thought provoking debate cards including: deadly disease, on your bum, tempting, too greasy, snackoholic and let them rot. Each has a hard hitting image, a question about the image and general information about the topic. For individual or group (8-15 years)

The file can be used to guide and support individuals and settings to improve their health and wellbeing through implementation of more environmentally friendly practices by growing their own produce and creating green spaces. Code Number: 04/NT/03/A Child and Adolescent Obesity Book (Cambridge University Press 2002) This book addresses the ever-increasing problem of obesity in children and adolescents, the long term health and social problems that arise from this, and approaches to prevention and management. For use by health professionals The chart allows the health professional to record BMI and waist circumference. Also, personal details of the child can be recorded on a section of the chart Raising the Issue of Weight in Children, Young People and Adults A4 Information Cards (NHS) There are two A4 information cards, one for children and young people and one for adults. The information cards have 6 points which can be used by health professionals in a number of settings to raise the issue of weight.
