2 What is UNFPA? UNFPA is an international development agency whose aim is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person s potential is fulfilled.

3 What does UNFPA do? We are the lead United Nations agency that expands the capabilities and skills for women and young people to manage their sexual and reproductive health and wellbeing and to enjoy opportunities for a life of dignity.

7 Sexual and Reproductive health Access to sexual and reproductive health is a human right and a condition for development and gender equity. *** UNFPA is committed to a world where everyone has access to sexual and reproductive health services. We are committed to a ensuring that no woman dies giving life when we have the means to safe her.

8 The ability to have children by choice, not chance, transforms lives, communities and countries. Yet hundreds of millions of women cannot exercise this basic human right. Family planning

9 Adolescents and youth More than 40% of the world s population are under the age of 24, which means that today, young people are shaping both humanity s present and future. *** UNFPA is committed to giving young people the opportunities to reach their fullest potential. We see this as a moral obligation as well as a social, economic and political necessity.

10 Teen pregnancy The issue of teen pregnancy lies at the intersection of all our core issues. *** UNFPA aims to empower girls so that they can avoid unintended pregnancies, child marriages, other harmful practices, sexual violence and lost opportunities for their own development. The impact of empowering girls now will be felt for generations to come.

11 Population data to reduce poverty UNFPA assists countries in developing capacity in data collection and analysis and supports countries in using population data for policies and programmes to reduce poverty

12 Humanitarian Response in Emergencies UNFPA assists in emergencies in conflicts and natural disasters with life-saving interventions and services
