LASTING CHANGE STARTS WITH YOU
Opportunities for a better life Support, backing, expertise, funding Reports, information and feedback 1 The International Solidarity Foundation offers its partners expertise, funding and support. We carefully gather information from the local regions and closely track the progress of development as well as learning valuable lessons in the process. Our meticulous operational methods ensure positive and long-lasting effects, which allow the local communities to sustain and continue their development without outside help. 2 Partner organisations are of vital importance to our work. They alone have the necessary regional knowledge to ensure permanent change. They design their development strategies independently, which allows them to use appropriate methods that best suit the needs of local communities. Reports, information and feedback Education and support Volunteers and community leaders perform the groundwork of spreading knowledge, information and practical skills. They are actives who rise from within their own communities. Change is sustainable if it originates from within the community, which is why the work of community leaders and volunteers is so essential. We are striving to eradicate poverty and to end violence against women. We are present in over 105 communities across 3 continents. We impact the lives of approximately 85,000 people. We are a Finnish NGO with over 46 years of aid experience.
1 becomes 3 39 % Donations 5 % Other sources Foreign ministry 56% International Solidarity Foundation is a companionship organisation of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. For every 1 we receive in donations, the Foreign Ministry responds with a 2 contribution to our funds. Therefore a 100 donation is an effective contribution of 300, which we use to continue our work of improving the lives of women and girls as well as ending poverty. ISF is creating a world in which nobody is forced to live a life of poverty and no woman suffers from violence. Sources of income 2016.
Work allows people to overcome poverty Poverty is the primary obstacle for development. We teach farmers new methods of crop cultivation, develop high quality handicrafts with impoverished artisans and help families bring food to the table. Nicaragua Somaliland x The livelihoods of ordinary families in Somaliland are threatened by instability and drought. In Nicaragua, unemployment and climate change are major concerns. Somaliland: 25,000 Somalilanders are able to grow their crops thanks to our education programs. Nicaragua: Thanks to our product development programs, artisans were able to double their incomes in 2015.
End FGM Women and girls are often the most disadvantaged members of impoverished societies. We are enabling women to live their lives without the fear of violence and helping protect girls against genital mutilation. 86 % Up to 98% of girls aged 6-9 are victims of genital mutilation in Somaliland. Genital mutilation is a longstanding tradition within the Kisii community in Kenya. Up to 96% of Kisii girls undergo FGM. Somaliland Kenya Somaliland: 86% of students who participated in educational courses are actively resisting the culture of FGM. Kenya: Teachers are asking for FGM awareness to be included in the national curriculum.
Working with us to stop genital mutilation This isn t simply a women s issue, or just an issue for the communities in which female genital mutilation takes place. This is our collective issue. Tarja Halonen President
Every person and every girl has the right to be themselves, untouched and unmutilated. Female genital mutilation has no religious justification, but ending this cycle of violence is everyone s responsibility. Mari Mattsson pastor Female genital mutilation is a shocking act of violence and a single mutilated girl is one too many. We now have the opportunity to emphatically improve the lives of countless girls. In Kenya, I have personally witnessed how change can be achieved at a grassroots level. Girls who have escaped genital mutilation are actively working against the tradition. It is our duty to support the local actives, because we have the resources and the responsibility to help. Iina Kuustonen actor Meeri Koutaniemi documentarist and photographer
Female genital mutilation is one of the greatest injustices in the world. It is systematic and based largely on prejudice as well as false beliefs, which should be completely eradicated. I want to achieve long term results. Therefore, our focus should be on children and the youth as well as women s empowerment which leads to the empowerment of girls. Repression and discrimination against girls is higher in more impoverished communities. It is extremely important to be aware of this fact. Aki Lindén Doctor, CEO of HUS So far, over 8100 people have already donated. Will you be next?
