March - April 2002 Women s Development Researcher: Conducted a baseline study on Violence against Women in five governorates in Yemen, as part of Oxfam's Middle East-North Africa (MENA) regional program. German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) Yemen. (Short-term assignments of 3-6 weeks each). Gender & Development Policy Consultant/Trainer: Developed a Train the Trainers manual and trainers guide in Gender-Sensitive Community Development and Poverty Reduction. Trained the Ministry of Heath staff in seven governorates as part of Train the Trainers program, towards the Government's Socio-Economic Reform and Poverty Alleviation Strategy. Conducted training in development, gender, qualitative research methods, communication skills, community mobilization and grassroots development, including the participation of civil society in civic governance through collectives, cooperatives and grassroots associations. Conducted training in Women Economic Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation. Trained Parent Teacher Association (PTA) members at the Ministry of Education in school system rehabilitation, development, community outreach, popular participation and formation of civil society interest groups and collectives. Participated in the urban planning and improvement of the historic city of Shibam. Designed a three-year plan for community mobilization and the integration of women in community programs. Conducted an assessment of municipal community participation in the Health Sector Reform and Cost Recovery Program introduced by the Ministry of Health. CARE International Sanaa, Yemen. April - May 2001 Strategic Planning Consultant and Grant Writer: Conducted strategic planning and wrote funding proposals for the Yemeni Women's Union. The proposals were presented to the Gender and Development Department at the Royal Netherlands Embassy (RNE) for funding of a three-year Women in Development (WID) project.

January - June 2000 Regional Gender and Development Advisor: Provided technical assistance to 14 family planning associations in the Arab World in the area of gender, reproductive health and rights. Wrote and submitted funding proposals to the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), the World Health Organization (WHO) and other donor agencies. Organized and participated in several seminars and workshops with WHO and other regional and international reproductive health and reproductive rights organizations. January - March 1999 Strategic Planning & Gender Assessment and Policy Consultant: Provided institutional assessment and organizational planning for the Gender and Economy Women Group (GEWG), which was later registered as a national NGO: the Women Economic Empowerment Association (WEEA). Conducted an institutional assessment, strategic planning, and organizational restructuring and planning for the Yemeni National Women's Committee (YNWC), based on the post-beijing Phase II and the WID facilitation components. The World Bank. Sanaa, Yemen. February April 1999 Poverty Alleviation & Development Policy Consultant: National Poverty Study Manager of the Social Safety Nets Project (February-June 1998). Trained Yemeni field researchers and carried out a national poverty study on the coping mechanisms of the poor (qualitative research). Submitted the final report and presented it to the World Bank and the Yemeni Social Fund for Development (SFD) (April 1999).

Carried out feasibility analyses. Set up plans for expanding self-employment opportunities for women and sustainability of enterprises. Set up a monitoring and evaluation (M &E) system for the enterprises and trained project staff as well as the women participants (producers) to use it. Save the Children. Amman, Jordan January December Project Manager of the Small Scale Enterprises Project: Managed the USAID Partnership Grant: Utilized adult-learning theory and participatory techniques to mobilize three low-income communities towards self-employment and poverty alleviation. Supervised a team of ten staff members and trained them on the job. Coordinated with Save the Children field-office management and finance department. Initiated, designed and supervised the small-loans (community-based micro-credit) program. Designed and used a computerized monitoring and financial management system. Wrote monthly, quarterly and annual reports. Briefed Save the Children on the project's disbursement of funds and implementation progress. Attended two Save the Children training programs in Westport, Connecticut.
