Department of Political Science Daulat Ram College Welcome you all to unravel POLITICS Department considers democratisation of knowledge as a primary task, hence offers the Generic Elective courses in both the medium i.e Hindi and English. The courses offered by the department is well taken by the students and we have one of largest pool of students in the college. Faculty is dedicated and specialised and their personalised guidance provides academic comfort to the students. Political Science Association (PSA) as an integral part of the department, looks after the various activities and try to uncover the hidden personality of students. Faculty and Students are motivated to embark on the unconventional path by challenging the established norms.
This course makes effort to impart understanding of the vulnerabilities of women in various walks of life. The course tries to locate the reasons for subjugation of women in Patriarchy and Society. It also offers the theoretical understanding of the subjugation of women from various feminist schools of thought. It endeavours to comprehend the distinction between Sex and Gender, Public and Private space. It discusses the Modernity (Personal is not Political) and Post modernity (Personal is Political) debates. It identifies the institutions dominated by men which chains and exploit women such as Family, Community and State. This course becomes important in the light of empowerment of women in our society.
Man is defined as a human being and a woman as a female - whenever she behaves as a human being she is said to imitate the male. Actually, Women are not born they are made. Simone de Beauviour Course goes back to the history of Women's Movement and discusses the violence against women. It also discusses the question of feminist movement. It also picks up the debate of work and women, sexual harassment at work place, dowry deaths, eve-teasing and rapes etc. Why is menstruation stigmatised? Course discusses the Reproductive identity and care work of women. Can it be considered as productive work? Are we sexist? Are we actually differentiating in terms of body of women and sex worker? Apart from this, the plight of the sex workers and their health is an important topic to be discussed. It also picks up the question like categorisation of women in some areas and treating as one in another. Does women have any caste? This question is taken in detail in this course. Caste and class in women and acceptance of this in academics has also been taken into discussion.
The course is comprehensively designed and it covers the every issue of women whether political, social, cultural, economic and so on. What is modernity? Has society been modernized when it comes to women? Why men who subjugates women feel less powerful than women? Various questions like these are dealt in this course. The purpose is to uncover the hidden truth and go deep into the problems of women to emancipate our women from the clutches of patriarchy. It tries to unravel the politics over women empowerment and category of gender to acquire power and avoid the real question. The objective of this course is to give equal status of women in the society.
Dear Students, we all consider women question very easy to answer and fails to understand the criticality of the community. This course is designed to question the reality and to search for the truth. This is the high time, when women need to be given their due right. Reading this course would be definitely best experience. Knowing things makes you strong and dignified. You are welcome to understand the questions of vulnerability.
The course name itself shows that Dr. Ambedkar is yet to be understood. He has been reduced to mere identity despite having such a wide horizon of thinking. Studying this course will enlighten students to study polity, history, society, economy and religion from the perspective of downtrodden section of the society. He explores the Indian Society better than anyone does. He unravels the question of untouchables in India. It is important to understand when he says that I was born as Hindu but will not die as Hindu. His vision of India is beautifully discussed in this course. Baba Saheb Ambedkar has become the most searched personality of the contemporary time.
Today, Caste has become major determinant of Indian Politics. The views of Baba Saheb Ambedkar on Caste question of Indian Society need to be understood as he always asserted that the caste needs to be annihilated. The problem of Hinduism has been identified by Baba Saheb as Brahmanism. It is very well articulated by him to differentiate between caste Brahmins and idea of Brahmanism. He said that Brahmanism is poison to Hinduism. This course discusses these problems in detail. It also analyses, how as a maker of the constitution of India, he focussed on ensuring the rights of the citizen of this country. The constitution of India emerged as the most progressive and an instrument of social change in India.
This course also looks into the detail of his economic vision for the country. It is one of the best model of development available which has been consistently ignored by the ruling class. Why did it happen? It also deals with question of violence against women, Dalits, backwards, vulnerable and downtrodden section of the society. It becomes important to understand Dr. Ambedkar around these issues which we are facing even today in our country. His ideas need to be studied to understand the question of social justice and idea of reservation which has become the most contentious issue of today s India. This course will definitely benefit students to understand the caste problem and its genesis. To find solution we need to understand the nature of the problem first.
Dear Students, Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar is not only the Father of the Constitution of India rather his idea of India makes him the Architect of Modern Indian Society. He needs to be studied to understand the science of the problems in India. He is the one scholar who does not only identify the problems but gives scientific solution also. He does not seem to be born in 20 th century as his vision is at par with time. It is sure studying him will develop scientific outlook among the students. The approach will be developed which will make your personality composed and inclusive.
