5 People with diabetes require access to a range of services and support to manage their diabetes 1,2 medicines for managing blood sugar levels and other comorbidities 1,2 education to empower people to manage their diabetes 2 equipment and supplies for monitoring blood sugar levels 2 healthy lifestyle interventions to promote healthy living and reduce the risk of complications 2 healthcare professional support to manage and adjust treatment 2 regular screening for early detection and treatment of diabetes-related complications 2 1. RANJITH S Ranjith has type 1 diabetes and lives in India 2017 maximum price 4 USD/vial * Least developed countries (as defined by the United Nations), other low-income countries (as defined by the World Bank) and selected organisations providing relief in humanitarian situations.

12 12 Reaching the base of the pyramid The Base of the Pyramid programme works to improve access to diabetes care for the working poor at the base of the economic pyramid. The programme runs in three countries. * Interventions range from ensuring stable and affordable supply of insulin to establishing diabetes clinics and centres of excellence. 2 1,650 HCPs trained 1 million 5,600 people reached with patients awareness campaigns 1 receiving insulin 1 * Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria Diabetes screening in Ghana 1.
