More than 500 e-learning resources are available on the e-eso website! epatcare epatcare is a unique educational software tool developed to improve the dialogue between clinicians by providing interactive training, and to ultimately advance patient care. epatcare provides clinicians the opportunity to create, view, share and present their clinical patient cases within the Oncology Community. It focuses on the needs of this specific target group by offering a patient case sharing function via cloud. This interactive and intuitive platform enables users to easily create an attractive and appealing patient case that can be presented to an audience. This is what makes this tool truly valuable for HCPs. The intuitive handling of the software as well as a chronological, well-structured and comprehensible presentation of patient cases facilitates discussions with other oncologists or tutorials for students. A virtual journey guides the user through the patient's history from their presentation to investigation, diagnosis, management and outcomes, with all the patient's medical background and test results located in one convenient place. epatcare provides you with clinical real-life cases that have been seen and managed by oncology specialists. More than 70 cases available on the ESO epatcare platform! epatcare is developed by infill Kommunikation and the platform was provided by Boehringer Ingelheim. e-eso and epatcare online resources are available free of charge. 28 BIOSIMILARS IN CANCER CARE: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS AND PATIENTS November Barcelona, Spain Chairs: M. Aapro, CH - G. Curigliano, IT Over the past two decades, the United States and Europe experienced a dramatic and unsustainable rise in cancer health care costs. Eight of the top ten most expensive drugs are cancer drugs, notably the novel biologic agents arising out of the recent revolution in our understanding of the genetic and molecular basis of malignancy. As the protective patents on new biologic therapies reach expiration, the race to develop biosimilars has begun, hopefully increasing competition and reducing costs. Although the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicine Agency (EMA) have developed Learning objectives: Explain the importance of analytical studies in development and regulatory approval of biosimilars Describe the concepts of immunogenicity and extrapolation of indications based on evaluation of the totality of the evidence and mechanism of action rationale Appraise the importance of pharmacoeconomics and access to biological oncology medicines in Europe Discuss the potential clinician-, nurse-, pharmacist-, and patient-specific issues relating to the suboptimal use of biosimilars and strategies to mitigate them Summarize current and emerging data on oncology monoclonal antibody biosimilars and their potential to enable optimal combination therapy DEADLINES EARLY REGISTRATION: 26 AUGUST 2018 LATE REGISTRATION: 4 NOVEMBER 2018 regulations for the development and approval of biosimilars, it remains uncertain how rapid and broad their entry will be. The reasons for such uncertainty are multiple but fundamentally relate to the biologic nature of these agents: these drugs, unlike generic pharmaceuticals, are large, complex molecules derived from biologic processes that are similar but not identical to the original agent and, thus, subject to immunogenicity and drift over time. The demonstration of comparable efficacy and safety to the originator is a challenge for both regulators and companies, necessitating careful pharmacovigilance following approval. 43 MEDIA ACTIVITIES The aim of ESO s media activities is to promote and reward intelligent and critical coverage of cancer and cultivate a more positive but realistic image of the disease that is developed through several activities that are described herefter. Cancer World Journalism Award The international magazine Cancer World is looking for outstanding pieces of journalism published between October 2016 and April 2018 that are changing the way we think about cancer. We are looking for journalists to submit one or more items of their work whether in print, online, on radio, video or television - into the following categories: Patient and carer experience Research, science and treatment Policy, services and affordability Prevention In all categories, we are looking for articles/programmes that move beyond documenting experience, science, policy and practice. We want to find work that challenges, addresses urgent questions, increases awareness and prompts change. We are particularly looking for serious investigative journalism. A prize of 1500 is available for the winner in each category. The journalist judged the overall winner will also be funded to attend the 2018 ECCO Summit in Vienna (7th-9th September 2018), where he/she will be presented with their award. The closing date for entries is 1st May Find out more at Cancer World Journalist Network ESO has created a Cancer World Journalist Network group on Facebook for cancer reporting journalists worldwide. Members of the group help, support and encourage each other to further develop their cancer reporting skills. They can also submit proposals for short news and opinion pieces for the Cancer World website as well as apply for a Cancer World Journalist Grant and be funded by ESO to complete a story on a cancer-related topic.
