2 Plan & Prepare 1 Plan & Prepare Planning, preparing for and responding to an immediate crisis is one of the biggest challenges facing organisations in the private and public sector. Government, industry, distribution and the community must work together to build a successful preparedness plan and foundation for an effective response. 3M s technology, expertise and support can help provide much of what you need before, during and after an emergency. Globally, 3M has helped Public Health officials and corporations in more than 35 countries with its demand planning tools and health and safety services. These tools provide a customised picture to mirror and validate your emergency response plans. By allowing the organisation to enter its own risk assumptions, the tools define minimum readiness levels that can be used for activity planning, budgeting and logistics processes. Having the proper equipment and supplies ready, and in the right quantities when needed, is a critical component of successful emergency planning and response activities. Critical Components for Pandemic Planning Identify parameters that define emergency events Identify employees by location and job responsibility Identify work schedules + + = Demand Planning Inputs Estimate intensity of consumptions for continuity of operations Familiarise users with procedures and products Continuity Demand Planning Tool that provides: Scenario Design and Planning Minimum Readiness Levels Specified Stockpile Level Estimates Demand Plans What-if Analysis 3M Pandemic Planning Tools 3M has created a software that can estimate needed stockpile levels for your business. 3M can share with you national and international best practices in Business Continuity Pandemic Influenza Planning and how the lessons learned by businesses can assist you as you craft your pandemic preparedness plans. Information on business continuity planning for pandemic is often generic, and will need to be adapted to meet the circumstances of each business. Based on customer inputs, the 3M Demand Planning Business Continuity Tool can simulate thousands of different possibilities in minutes, providing a prioritized view of the supply chain needed and the supporting logistics required.
3 Protect & Recover 2 Protect & Recover Government, businesses, community based organizations, non government organisations and other entities can take steps to plan for the impact of disruptive events to protect health care workers, employees, their operations and assets. The ability to protect employees in mission critical functions as well as to protect and recover assets, could mean the difference between a minor disruption and the total cessation of business activities. 3M offers safety, security and protection services and products for different working environments that can help protect health care workers, employees and assets and provide recovery assistance during and after an incident. 3M is a global leader in respiratory protection equipment and possesses global capacity for a broad and diversified range of respiratory protective equipment. 5 Reinforce 3 Reinforce Training and education is essential to develop awareness and good understanding of how to respond and react in a crisis situation. When referring to personal protection, knowledge management processes can help raise use and protection effectiveness, guidance and compliance. 3M has a long history of helping customers with product training and product usage. Teams dedicated to respond to technical inquiries around the world devote their expertise to create valuable training content that can support your education plans. Good Practices in Pandemic Outbreaks 3M Disposable Particulate Respirators Ensure proper fit to the face Use hygiene best practices during fitting and removal Dispose of respirators after exposure to biohazards 3M Reuseable Respirators with 3M Filters Ensure proper fit to the face Use hygiene best practices during fitting and removal Dispose of filters after exposure to biohazards Decontaminate reusable components 3M Powered and Supplied Air System Dispose of filters after exposure to biohazards Other system components must be disposed of or decontaminated after exposure to biohazards 3M Eyewear and 3M Protective Coveralls Select correct products in relation to the biohazard Decontaminate eyewear after exposure to biohazards Dispose of coveralls after exposure to biohazards 3M also provide a range of tools to educate and reinforce good practices around the use of Personal Protective Equipment during a pandemic. The importance of fit Disposable particulate respirators are most effective when there is a good seal between the edges of the respirator and your face. The instant this seal is broken, protection is compromised as contaminated air can leak in though any gaps. Clean shaven face as beards or other facial hair can prevent a good seal Long hair should be tied back Using both hands when moulding nose clip helps to ensure a close fit and good seal upon the face Straps should be properly positioned and not twisted Respirator should be correctly positioned on your face and head A pre-use fit check should be conducted every time you fit your respirator Example - properly fitted disposable particulate respirator Note - different products have different characteristics. See for more information. Upper strap should be positioned on the crown of the head. Strap should not be twisted Inadequate fit leads to inadequate protection. It is important that you follow the detailed user instructions on correct usage and maintenance of your personal protective device. For more information please visit our website. Noseclip should be moulded around nose and cheeks to give a good seal Respirator should be correctly positioned on your face and head For flat fold respirators make sure the panels are fully unfolded Lower strap should be positioned below the ears. Strap should not be twisted
6 Keep Updated 4 Keep Updated The World Health Organization (WHO), the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as well as national authorities may issue specific guidance for personal protective equipment use for those exposed to a contagious biohazard.
