2 Introduction n As of 12/31/2009 there were more than 73,800 HIV/ AIDS cases in New Jersey including 1,353 pediatric HIV/AIDS cases. Over 4,000 children were also exposed to HIV. Over half of the cumulative HIV/ AIDS cases have died. Almost three in every five of these numbers resided in Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties. n Among the 50 states, New Jersey ranks 5 th in cumulative AIDS cases, 3 rd in pediatric AIDS cases, has the 5th highest rate of children living with AIDS and has one of the highest proportions of women among those living with AIDS.
