THYROID HEALING MINDMAP By Dr Eva Detko, PhD
INTRODUCTION As you are undoubtedly aware, most cases of thyroid dysfunction are autoimmune in nature. What this means is that even though your tests and your symptoms may be pointing out to the problem being at the level of the thyroid, in reality the problem goes much further, i.e. it is a problem of a dysregulated immune function. This is why in order to heal your thyroid, it is critical to look at the underlying causes and to treat the problem as systemic, rather than an organ problem. In fact, those who stop at managing symptoms, e.g. taking a hormone replacement drug but do not address the root causes will more often than not go on to develop other autoimmune disorders (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, type 1 diabetes, etc.). I am not saying that you should not take a thyroid hormone supplement. Sometimes that is appropriate, if not essential. However, most people and doctors seem to think that the job is done at that point and this approach tends to lead to problems further down the line. So how to properly approach healing your thyroid? There is no denying that restoring your thyroid function is often complex. There is a number of potential root causes to consider and unfortunately often people go down one rabbit hole and get a bit lost. If that is you, the mindmap I have created will hopefully help you get back on the right track. The mindmap focuses on epigenetic factors (rather than genetics) because these are the factors you can control and collectively they exert far more influence on your thyroid health than genetics.
One huge potential root cause that people notoriously underplay and underestimate is the impact of emotional toxicity on your thyroid function. Since I am one of only few people in the health space that talks in detail about emotional toxicity, most people still do not know what it means exactly. This is why I have included symptoms of emotional toxicity as part of this resource. Much of emotional toxicity results from early traumatic experiences but there are other factors such as limiting beliefs (social engineering), internal conflicts, personality traits, toxic relationships, and everyday stress. Put it simply, emotional toxicity is one of the main contributing factors to sympathetic dominance (constantly activating the fight-flight-freeze-appease response) and a chronically stressed body CANNOT and WILL NOT heal. In order to heal, you must activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is rest-digest-heal response. This diagram illustrates well the very tight relationship that exists between your nervous, endocrine (hormonal), and immune system. This is why it is vital to reduce to minimum not only physical and chemical, but also emotional stressors.
THYROID HEALING MINDMAP IDENTIFYING / DEALING WITH ROOT CAUSES OF THYROID DYSFUNCTION MORE ADVANCED IMMUNOMODULATION & TISSUE REPAIR PHASE MAINTENANCE Emotional toxicity Some strategies to help you heal: For tissue repair consider: For immune modulation consider: Dysbiosis & leaky Emotional detox Amino acid Fasting (e.g. intermittent, Active relaxation gut (calming the HPA axis) supplementation 24-hour, or longer) (e.g. meditation, breathwork) Nutrient deficiencies AIP dietary protocol / Herbs to regenerate Probiotics, prebiotics, Anti-inflammatory (vitamins/minerals/amino acids) test for sensitivities the liver (bitters) (fermented foods) diet & supplements diet Chronic infections (bacteria, parasites, viruses, SIBO, SIFO, protozoa) Supplement to correct nutritional deficiencies Fatty acids to restore the nervous system Supplementation (vit D, A, E, K, omega 3 FA) Physical activity / movement Hormonal imbalances Cellular & oral detox (must clear detox pathways first) Colostrum to restore the gut Infrared therapy Good sleep hygiene Mold exposure (toxic mold syndrome) Bioresonance for diagnostics & addressing infections, toxicity & imbalances Collagen (+vit C) for connective tissue CBD oil, essential oils, herbs, flower essences Periodic detox / fasting Environmental toxicity Optimizing sleep / SENSORIgenomics Bioidentical Body work (heavy metals, pesticides, etc) circadian rhythms (brain health restoration) hormones (e.g. chiropractic) Allergies / sensitivities Physical activity / movement Stem cell therapy Movement (yoga, qi gong, tai chi, walking) Electromagnetic Home detox / EMF Low level laser Psychoneuro- radiation (EMFs) detox / clean skincare therapy immunology
SYMPTOMS OF EMOTIONAL TOXICITY poor self-worth / poor self-esteem negative self-talk not feeling deserving guilt shame feeling anxious or worried fears (e.g. fear of rejection/ criticism, fear of failure, fear of losing control, fear of death/illness, etc. feeling defensive feeling jealous / envious feeling angry or frustrated over-analyzing or over-thinking feeling overwhelmed feeling negative not being able to think clearly being critical of others feeling irritable feeling depressed feeling apathetic feeling victimized feeling unsure of yourself and/or questioning your decisions feeling alienated being in a toxic relationship being a doormat mental rehearsals feeling sad (or experiencing any other negative emotions on a regular basis) anything that stops your mind from being silent and stops you from experiencing inner peace ruminating thoughts feeling conflicted
I do hope that you find this resource useful. Remember that YOU CAN HEAL. It may feel sometimes like you are fighting a losing battle but it just means you have not yet uncovered all the pieces of your puzzle. When you have done, it all comes together and you can enjoy vibrant health. I have done it and many others have done it as well, so there is no reason why it is not possible for you. Just remember to go after those root causes because that is where the key to your success is. If you decide that you want to address your emotional toxicity, feel free to contact me to see how I can help you. I can offer a free 15-minute consultation to establish if we are the right fit for each other (info@dr-eva.com). A BIT ABOUT ME I have studied natural medicine and the human mind for over 20 years. As it is often the case, it was my own health struggles that put me on this path. I successfully recovered from chronic fatigue and reversed Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and now I am very passionate about helping others achieve optimal level of health. I have extensive knowledge and experience in the field of human physiology, biochemistry and nutritional sciences. I am currently completing my second doctorate degree in Holistic Medicine. I also use a wide range of mind-transforming tools and modalities, including: Havening Techniques, BrainWorking Recursive Therapy, psychoanalysis, hypnotherapy, NLP, CBT, Mindfulness, and applied psychoneuroimmunology. I run retreats for people with autoimmunity focused on helping them uncover the missing pieces of their puzzle and put it altogether.
