7 Who is Pathways A healing center in Minneapolis (formerly health crisis resource center ): -Provides complementary therapies, care, services and resources to people in lifethreatening or severe chronic health crisis, and their families- and caregivers. -Offer services for free at center, for fee in the community. 7

17 NYT article: How Measurement Fails US We suffer from measurement fatigue!! Data gathering and mining take more time and resources than patient care with little effect on outcomes. We need to determine and appreciate all the factors that contribute to outcomes.

18 Initial Research Projects at Pathways Objectives: -To describe the expectations, experiences and perceived benefits of educational offerings, group events and one-on-one sessions provided at Pathways as perceived by participants. -To determine the extent to which Pathways participants share their use of complementary therapies with their physicians.

19 Results 90% agreement: I have a resource to use when I need it; I feel more hopeful, more positive about my situation; I have more control over my life; My quality of life is enhanced; I am more at peace; 80% Felt More spiritually connected, More supported, More connected with others, Less anxious Over 65% of participants discussed their participation in complementary services at Pathways with their physicians. 61% of physicians were supportive 10% somewhat negative; 4% very negative

20 Healing is not the same thing as curing. It is not getting rid of disease, but the balancing, integrating, and expanding of ones way of being regardless (but often because) of the experience of a disease.

More than a stopgap measure or coping mechanism during a time for difficulty, Renewing Life is a catalyst for changing the way one lives life!
