7 TCM monitoring reports With the TCM reports you get the information you need and more... TCM Monitoring Assessment report The assesment report is a condition report typically done at the beginning of the monitoring. It is a yearly assessment report providing you with information independent of events and failure detection. It gives you an overview of each turbine and its components. TCM Monitoring EVENT REPORT The event report provides you with graphs and states a health indicator, a description of the detected fault, and recommended actions to be taken. It also includes a time for reaction, letting you know how far you can stretch before taking action, and this way maybe combine the action on one turbine with another turbine, saving repair costs in the process. Clear and severe outer race fault on the main bearing. Trend shows further increase. Exchange of component expected. Recommended Action: Visual inspection of bearing and grease within 14 days Main bearing shows clearly pattern of an advanced outer race fault. Trend has reached severe level. Recommended Action - (040) Urgent inspection at site required; exchange expected in 1 month.

9 Case Story: TCM Monitoring Caught vital Damage In 2016 a Canadian company acquired an old wind farm with Siemens turbines, and was soon to discover the vital effects of the TCM system. Not long into the new acquisition the company s own monitoring specialists caught abnormal vibration measurement on one of the turbines. On the 1st of March 2016, an alarm went off as the TCM system confirmed abnormal vibration measurement that exceeded the TCM criteria rated as critical. What the TCM system caught was a cracked HS pinion tooth, and because the failure was caught in an early stage by the TCM system, it could be repaired and replaced up tower without no collateral damage. On March 30, 2016, an was send to Gram & Juhl with pictures of the fault and the following statement: I thought you would like to see what our TCM system caught this month - a HS pinion tooth. It s repaired already, up tower replacement, no collateral damage. The company believed it would have led to a catastrophic failure with the gearbox had it not been caught in time by the TCM system. If not caught in time, the HS pinion tooth could have damaged other teeth or in worst case damaged the gearbox, a failure that would have cost the company approx. $420,000. Because the failure was caught in an early stage, it was possible to repair and replace up tower, and exchange the shaft with the pinion, without collateral damage, and with the repair cost of $36,000. The TCM system therefore saved the company a total of $384,000.
