1 February 2014 Honduras New Hope Clinic Weekly Reports Weekly Report Feb. 3-7, 2014 This week we saw a total of 85 patients, 25 of whom were unable to pay because of limited This week the clinic donated a wheel chair air cushion to a man who suffered a trauma in his spinal column that injured the spinal cord and unfortunately left him in a wheel chair. He suffered this trauma five years ago and now has decubitus ulcers on his buttocks. Upon entering the clinic the ulcers had become infected for which we did a debridation and cleaning of the ulcers. We now have the patient on medication and appointments in the clinic every week for evaluation. The air cushion has given him great relief from his ulcers. This week I gave a talk on dental hygiene along with Dr. Gonzales (clinic dentist) in the school in Guarabuqui. I also organized a clean-up operation in this community. At this time besides the students we also had the help of the Health Committee which was organized in this community. 1 patient with descubitus ulcers on both buttocks 2 patients with bronchitis 2 patients from a fall from a horse 2 patients recalled for Pap smear results and treatment 2 patients for Lumbago 2 patients for elevated uric acid 2 patients with sinusitis 3 patients with allergic rhinitis 2 patients with acute tonsillitis 2 patients with leg pain 3 patients for control of irritable colon problems 1 patient with dental abscess 2 patients with insufficient venous 2 patients with inner ear infections 3 prenatal visits 4 Pap smears 9 patients for hypertension control 9 patients for diabetes control 2 patients for torticollis 1 patient with migraine 1 patient with reflux problems 1 patient with probable hepatitis 1 patient with tendinitis 2 patients with head lice 2 patients for wound cleaning 1 patient for replacement of IUD

In reality, the 6 th finger had no function, as is common in these cases. Unfortunately in school the girl was made fun of by her classmates to the point that it had caused psychological trauma and she had fallen behind in her classes and no longer wanted to attend school. The surgery to remove the extra finger was very simple and the result was immediate. The happiness on the face of the girl and on that of the parents was gratifying. It made me very happy because I was looking at a girl who had lost a finger but gained a great deal of confidence. Now the girl has returned to school with great determination and the children do not make fun of her. 3 patients for minor surgery 2 patients with osteocondritis 2 patients with migraine type headache 4 Pap smears 3 patients with impetigo

4 Weekly Report Feb , 2014 This week we saw a total of 87 patients, 27 of whom were unable to pay because of limited This week we referred a little boy who was born with a congenital malformation that is called myelomeningocele. This deformity comes from the incomplete closing of the spinal column that is produced in the embryonic development. The child is three years old and this week the mother mentioned several convulsions possible because of fever. When I examined him he showed respiratory signs and symptoms compatible with pneumonia. The single mother of limited financial resources had no possibility of being able to transport the child to Tegucigalpa. The clinic took care of contacting the ambulance in Orica to transport the child and his mother to Tegucigalpa and gave her some additional economic aid as well. The man was pealing coconuts with a machete and he unfortunately suffered an amputation of the distal phalange of the second and third finger of the left hand. The patient says that he doesn t know what happened because he had done this before and had never cut himself.
