1 t e info@forte.uk.com f forte.uk.com Nov 2016 During this year s DDA 2016 Annual Conference, pharmacy minister David Mowat announced details of the funding cuts to affect community pharmacies from December Details of the funding cut concessions granted to small pharmacies located over a mile from their nearest pharmacy neighbour the pharmacy access scheme - are naturally of interest to dispensing GPs pharmacy owners or not. Access scheme details, such as provisions to exclude new entrants to rural areas from accessing the concession, will also be relevant to GPs dispensary investment plans. But, for dispensing GPs the relevance of the pharmacy funding package does not end there. Looking at the terms of the new pharmacy quality payment scheme, it is clear that the Department of Health has lofty ambitions for pharmacy service quality. Showing where the pharmacy standards bar has been set are provisions such as: 80% of all pharmacy staff working in patient facing roles are trained dementia friends ; asthma patients dispensed more than six short acting bronchodilator inhalers without any corticosteroid inhaler within a 6-month period are referred to an appropriate health care professional for an asthma review. Dispensing practices may also wish to note the move away from a ring-fenced dispensing fee. While the pharmacy funding cuts do not affect dispensing GPs, there can be no doubt as to the Department s direction of travel and expectations - of the primary care dispensing service. It may not take long for patients to notice improvements in the quality of the pharmacy service they receive either. Dispensing practices you have been warned.
