1 EU SUMMIT 2018 Air Pollution & mhealth Prevention and Control of Chronic Respiratory Diseases 23 MARCH 2018 Lithuanian Seimas (Parliament) Gedimino Av. 53, Vilnius, Lithuania Organizers: Endorsed by EU Summit Vilnius, Lithuania
2 OBJECTIVES EU Summit Vilnius, Lithuania Air pollution and climate change represent two major health threats of the 21 st century. Chronic respiratory and allergic diseases are particularly impacted by these threats, but there is an insufficient recognition of the problem. mhealth will represent a major improvement for the understanding and mitigation of air pollution. Lithuania is a RIS (Regional Innovation Scheme) country. The EIT RIS is a structured programme whose aim is to support the integration of the Knowledge Triangle and increase the innovation capacity in areas and regions of Europe not directly benefiting from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). The EU Summit in Vilnius will follow the GARD General Meeting (Global Alliance against Chronic Respiratory Diseases, WHO) held in Brussels (November 10, 2017) that already set the scene for the fight against air pollution using mhealth. The EU Summit 2018 will generate crucial concepts that will be further developed during a follow up meeting to be held at the NCD UN High Level Meeting (September 2018). Moreover, it will envisage EU programmes on air pollution, climate change and chronic respiratory diseases using mhealth in the RIS countries.
