5 Our Staff and Program Our consultants include doctoral and master s level Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBAs), and psychologists. Consultants are trained in early childhood education, special education, and applied behavior analysis (ABA). Applied Behavior Analysis: Effective and Individualized ABA is a methodology that applies scientific interventions to address behavioral needs. ABA facilitates the development of language, social interactions, and independent living by applying basic behavioral practices positive reinforcement, teaching in small steps, prompting, and repeated practice. In addition to building critical skills, ABA can also help reduce both everyday social problems and serious behavior disorders. Hundreds of scientific studies have shown that ABA is the most effective method to teach children and adolescents with autism and other developmental disabilities. ABA has been endorsed by the National Institutes of Health, the Association for Science in Autism Treatment, and the National Autism Center, and has been identified by the Surgeon General of the United States as the most effective way to treat autism.

6 A focus on Autism May Institute offers training on effective teaching strategies for children with autism in the general education classroom. Topics include: identifying ASD; impact of ASD on educational performance; developing effective services and accommodations in general education settings; behavior support; social skills, communications, and academic modifications; design of the classroom to support students with ASD; and using paraprofessional staff to support students. Individualized Consultation Our services are carefully matched to the specific concerns and needs of school systems, students, and families. Consultants develop highly individualized services, recommendations, and plans to achieve desired goals. Supporting children and families Our May Centers offer a wide variety of services designed to meet the needs of children and their families with ASD and other special needs. From early intervention, to homebased programs, to support for students in the classroom, our services and programs can make a profound difference in the lives of the children we serve. I needed to learn more strategies that I could use effectively with severe behavior issues. May Institute has all the answers. Public School Teacher
