2 About Starter Kit The purpose of this starter kit is to help medical providers begin thinking about how to best structure interactions with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to build on the strengths of individuals with ASD and related developmental disabilities. These starters provide a beginning set of schedules that can be adapted by increasing or decreasing the number of steps or expectations for those with lesser or greater behavioral challenges. In addition, they can also be used as a demonstration for adapting other activities or interactions. When adapting the presented or other activities, remember to: provide some support/structure to the activity by using an activity schedule with rules depicted visually. These can be in the form of a simple list with a check box to mark when a step is completed or a pull-off where each step is represented by a picture that is cut out, laminated, and velcroed onto a board for the individual to pull off once the step is completed. consider additional strategies and supports that can help with interactions and motivation of an individual (see p.9) In this first kit in the series, we offer the following resources: Visual Schedule: Well-Child Visit Visual Schedule: Sick Visit Visual Schedule: Care Coordination Visit Visual Schedule: My Vitals Schedule Visual Schedule: X-Ray Procedure Visual Schedule: Physical Exam HANDS in Autism Interdisciplinary Training & Resource Center
