Account No: Project Proposal Title HELP 1200 MOTHERS GET TREATED FOR CANCER Project Location Mariakani estate (Mawanga area), Nakuru North sub County, Nakuru County, Kenya Plot no Background Nakuru County is one of the 47 counties of Kenya and is located in the Rift valley province. It borders with Central, Baringo, Kericho and Narok counties. This is a cosmopolitan and densely populated county occupied mainly by members of the kikuyu, kisii, Luo, Luhya and kalenjin communities. Source of livelihood here is farming which sometimes is marred by the inconsistency of rain.

2 Organization Profile Impact Healthcare Community Based Organization (IMPHECO) is a non-profit faith based organization which was founded in February 2014 and is registered under the ministry of labor, social security and services, and Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB). The purpose of IMPHECO is to alleviate suffering and promote human dignity through provision of comprehensive quality and reliable health services to the vulnerable and marginalized groups in the society. The main area of focus is provision of comprehensive primary health care which includes but not limited to; diagnosis and treatment of common ailments, maternal and Child Health (MCH), cervical and breast cancer screening, immunization, Tuberculosis, Human immune deficiency Virus (HIV) testing & counseling and provision of Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART). Vision Healthy and productive lives for all. Mission IMPHECO is a CBO whose mandate is to transform lives for vulnerable and marginalized groups through the provision of affordable, efficient and quality healthcare services. Project justification Both the cancer of the cervix and breast cancer is the leading cause of deaths and suffering among women and girls of the reproductive age living in Nakuru County, Kenya. High numbers of mothers suffering from cancer have been reported mostly in the rural setting where the awareness levels and knowledge on cancer and cancer screening services are limited. The incidence rate is; Breast cancer 34 per 100,000 and cervical cancer is 25 per 100,000. Cancer is known by the villagers here as curses which have contributed much to suffering and rising poverty levels in the society. Project summary In an effort to improve the physical, social, economic and emotional wellbeing of the people of Nakuru north sub county, Impact health care community based organisation (IMPHECO) purposes to work in collaboration with the well-wishers to help more than 1200 mothers get access to diagnostic, treatment and care for cervical and breast cancer.

3 Cervical and breast cancer are the most frequent cancer and the leading cause of cancer related deaths among women of reproductive age in Kenya and therefore the project will help lower the burden and thus promote quality of life to all mothers especially those within the Nakuru North sub county. The project will focus on reducing cancer incidence, morbidity and mortality rates in Kenya by promoting community cancer awareness programs which will help sensitize mothers and girls of the reproductive age on cancer prevention and the importance of early detection.
