1 CELLULAR PATHOLOGY TURNAROUND TIMES These are average figures for some key specimens in days for the month of August The times include weekends & bank holidays when the laboratory is closed. The times, in days, are from when the specimen is taken from the patient until when the result is available on the computer system The department operates a system which ensures all clinically urgent specimens are dealt with as a priority. During periods of Histopathologist leave there is an intermittent waiting list. The average turnaround time for all non-gynae Cytology specimens is just under 2 ½ days. Against Bowel Cancer Screening Cases need to be reported to the patient within 7 days of the biopsy, our turnaround time for such specimens supports this. The department s target turnaround time for all specimens is as follows:- 50% of all specimens reported within 3 days from specimen collection from the patient 95% of all specimens reported within 7 days from specimen collection from the patient The graph below shows our performance against these targets. Turnaround Times Page 5 of 6 Authorised by: B. Seymour

6 Individual specimen turnaround times are available upon request from the Cellular Pathology Department on the number below. For further information about turnaround times and to discuss your requirements please ring the Quality Manager on Turnaround Times Page 6 of 6 Authorised by: B. Seymour
