1 I. Intrductin CALVIN JOHNSON JR. FOUNDATION 2015 PANCREATIC CANCER RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP The Calvin Jhnsn Jr. Fundatin, Inc. (CJJRF) is a nn-prfit 501(c)(3) rganizatin funded in 2008 by Calvin MEGATRON Jhnsn Jr., All-Pr NFL wide receiver f the Detrit Lins. The Fundatin is dedicated t the educatin, training, and scial develpment f at-risk yuth, alng with prviding financial assistance t cmmunity rganizatins. This year, CJJRF is ging PURPLE in supprt f pancreatic cancer. In 2014, Calvin s mther was diagnsed with pancreatic cancer and with early interventin, survived! Unfrtunately, pancreatic cancer is typically swift, silent, and ften undetected until it's t late. There are n early detectin tests, n effective lng-term treatments and, unless the cancer is surgically remved in its earliest stages, NO CURE. This year, CJJRF will ffer schlarships t supprt medical and graduate students dedicated t pancreatic cancer research. II. Objective The purpse f the CJJRF Pancreatic Cancer Research Schlarship is t prvide supprt fr medical and graduate students in the Metr-Atlanta area dedicated t pancreatic cancer research. The gals f this initiative are t encurage future physicians and scientists t pursue research and clinical studies related t the awareness, diagnsis, treatment, cure, and preventin f pancreatic cancer. Apprpriate prpsals include basic science prjects, clinical studies, cmmunity engagement activities, rganized sympsiums, and ther related activities. III. Eligibility By submitting a full applicatin, the applicant certifies that he/she meets the fllwing eligibility criteria: The applicant is currently enrlled in medical schl r a graduate prgram (wrking twards a M.D., Ph.D., M.S. r M.P.H.) in Metr-Atlanta and surrunding areas Qualified students with a sincere interest and/r currently engaged in pancreatic cancer research are encuraged t apply. The applicant must have mentr supprt and adequate infrastructure within their institutin t undertake the prpsed activities. IV. Deadline The deadline fr the full applicatin is April 27, 2015 at 5:00 PM. Eligible prpsals will be reviewed and applicants will be ntified in mid-may Successful applicants will be invited t the 7th Annual Catching Dreams Schlarship Athlete Extravaganza t be held at the Gergia Tech Htel and Cnference Center in Atlanta, Gergia, which will be held n June 27, 2015, where they will be frmally awarded. Final amunts will depend n the justificatin and discretin f the CJJRF Bard. If applicable, the institutin s indirect cst rate is limited t a maximum f 10%. Award Requirements Human Subjects and Animal Care apprval, if applicable, must be btained prir t receipt f the award, but nt required t be submitted with the applicatin. Awardees are invited and expected t attend the 7th Annual Catching Dreams Schlarship Athlete Extravaganza t be held at the Gergia Tech Htel and Cnference Center in Atlanta, Gergia, which will be held n June 27, VIP access will be cmplementary fr Awardee and ne guest. Awardees will be required t submit mnthly prgress reprts t CJJRF. Upn cmpletin f the prject, the CJJRF Schlarship awardee will be requested t prvide a final reprt and presentatin n the study utcmes. CJJRF supprt must be acknwledged in all publicatins derived frm the schlarship. If fr any reasn the awardee is unable t fulfil the requirements r adhere t the plicies f the CJJRF Schlarship, at the discretin f the CJJRF Bard, the schlarship may be revked.
