However, equal progress has not been seen in lung, pancreatic, oesophageal cancers and brain tumours, which share poor five-year survival. Through this series of events and increasing our funding, our ambition is to stimulate conversations and networking to improve the quality and quantity of research into these four cancers. 2 UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES CRUK Lung Cancer Centre of Excellence Conference 3 5 December 2017, Manchester Expected number of delegates: 250 After decades of neglect, lung cancer research is finally coming out of the shadows. For a disease that researchers and clinicians once considered impenetrable, research is redefining our understanding of the disease, and is setting new standards of care. But we still face significant challenges. By breaking down barriers between disciplines and by combining expertise we hope to open new avenues for collaborative research in cancer cell biology, cutting edge drug discovery and novel approaches to the detection, monitoring and treatment of lung cancer. The conference sessions cover a multidisciplinary view of lung cancer; from early detection to tumour evolution. We are pleased to announce the event will be opened by our keynote speakers; Professor Mark Krasnow from Stanford University and Professor Tyler Jacks from Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT. CRUK Brain Tumour Conference 1 3 May 2018, London Expected number of delegates: 250 Brain tumour survival remains low, and has changed little in over a generation. That's why we've made brain tumours a strategic priority as one of our four cancers of unmet need. We're boosting our investment into brain tumours, and we expect to spend around 25 million over the next five years on ring-fenced, targeted initiatives. We aim to expand our research portfolio across the research pipeline, and in all types of brain tumours, whether paediatric or adult. We'll be gathering world experts, headed up by our scientific chair Richard Gilbertson, and our phenomenal keynote speaker Luis F. Parada, across a range of disciplines to discuss the latest advances in research in this field.
