2 NEW PRODUCTS ACE SuperC18 TM UHPLC/HPLC Columns Exploit selectivity at low, intermediate and high ph Use with LC-MS compatible buffers between ph 1.5 and 11.5 Ultra-inert for maximum performance and reproducibility 2, 3, 5 and 10μm phases ACE SuperC18 ultra-inert silica based UHPLC and HPLC columns were developed using unique Encapsulated Bonding Technology (EBT TM ), which significantly increases ligand coverage of the silica surface and effectively eliminates the effect of unbonded silanol groups from separations. This results in improved inertness, chromatographic performance and stability. Changing ph is a powerful tool in enabling selectivity to be optimised and sample impurities to be identified. ACE SuperC18 columns provide excellent peak shape and lifetime under acidic, intermediate and high ph with LC-MS compatible buffers. In addition, they can be used with eluents containing methanol or acetonitrile, without suffering efficiency loss and/or extended equilibration times. Please contact Hichrom for further information. CHIRALPAX ZWIX(+) Quinine-derivatized (8S,9R) CHIRALPAX ZWIX(-) Quinidine-derivatized (8R,9S) CHIRALPAK ZWIX TM Chiral Phases High column efficiency due to 3μm particles Separation of underivatized amino acids and zwitterionic compounds Control of enantiomer elution order with ZWIX(+) and ZWIX(-) CHIRALPAK ZWIX chiral stationary phases from Chiral Technologies can be used in both HPLC and SFC modes. These immobilized zwitterionic stationary phases incorporate both anion- and cation-exchange functional groups. The phases were developed specifically to exhibit stereoselectivity for zwitterionic molecules, such as underivatized amino acids and peptides. The chiral selectors separate zwitterionic molecules on the basis of a double ion-pairing mechanism. Chiral selectors of CHIRALPAK ZWIX The use of polar eluents enables LC-MS to be used for detection and identification of many amino acids which lack chromophores. These zwitterionic ion exchangers complement the previously commercialised CHIRALPAK QD-AX and QN-AX anion-exchange columns (see page 85). New InertSustain Phases In addition to the InertSustain C18 phase (see page 105), GL Sciences have introduced further phases in the InertSustain series. InertSustain C8, Phenyl and NH2 are based on the same newly developed ES (Evolved Surface) silica as the initial C18 phase. InertSustain NH2, with optimised aminopropyl bonding, is listed as an ultra performance sugar analysis column with separations based on weak ion-exchange and HILIC modes. It prevents the resolution of anomers at low temperatures, thereby offering easier sugar analyses. New YMC CHIRAL Polysaccharide Series Polysaccharide chiral selectors Wide application range High durability, also for SFC/SMB In addition to the existing YMC chiral phases (see page 274) YMC have introduced a new family of polysaccharide chiral columns. Based on the chiral selectors amylose tris (3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) and cellulose tris (3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate), YMC CHIRAL Amylose-C and YMC CHIRAL Cellulose-C are coated phases offering a wide application range and high durability. 3 New HALO -5 Fused-Core Phases Fused-Core 5μm HALO-5 HILIC and HALO-5 Penta-HILIC Higher efficiency and lower back pressure than fully porous 5μm phases Well suited for use with legacy HPLC instruments Advanced Materials Technology have expanded the HALO-5 range of 5μm Fused-Core phases (described on page 128) to include HALO-5 HILIC and Penta-HILIC. These two phases contain the same bonding chemistries as their smaller particle size counterparts HALO HILIC and Penta-HILIC (see page 127). Both 5μm HALO-5 HPLC and the 2.7μm HALO UHPLC columns bridge the gap between HPLC and UHPLC. Bridge the gap between HPLC and UHPLC Kromasil 2.5μm UHPLC/HPLC Columns Based on same silica as larger particle classical 100Å Kromasil phases C18, C8 and C4 bonding chemistries Use in both HPLC and UHPLC systems Kromasil 2.5μm particle columns are based on the same stationary phases as other larger particle size Kromasil columns (see pages ), enabling easy scaling from existing Kromasil methods to 2.5μm particle columns. These smaller particles are based on very narrow specification ranges, resulting in excellent resolution and column-to-column reproducibility. This also enables easy transfer of methods developed on 2.5μm particles to other departments, such as quality control. NUCLEODUR and NUCLEOSHELL Phenyl-Hexyl Phases Macherey-Nagel s NUCLEODUR and NUCLEOSHELL Phenyl-Hexyl are the latest additions to the NUCLEODUR and NUCLEOSHELL ranges of HPLC/UHPLC columns discussed on pages These phases offer alternative selectivity compared to classical C18 phases and are recommended for aromatic and unsaturated compounds and polar compounds. 4 Thermo Scientific GlycanPac TM AXH-1 Column Unique glycan selectivity based on charge, size and polarity 1.9 and 3μm particle sizes Designed for high resolution and high throughput analyses Compatible with fluorescence and MS detection Thermo Scientific s GlycanPac AXH-1 column is a high performance silica-based column for simultaneous separation of glycans by charge, size and polarity. The column is based on innovative mixed-mode surface chemistry, specifically designed for qualitative, structural analysis and characterisation of uncharged and charged glycans present on proteins. GlycanPac AXH-1 offers unique selectivity for biologically important labelled or native glycans by LC-fluorescence and LC-MS methods. Thermo Scientific Acclaim TM SEC Columns Proprietary mono-dispersed multi-pore hydrophilic resin Low column bleed, compatible with UV, RI, MS, ELSD and Corona CAD detectors Thermo Scientific Acclaim SEC-300 (5μm) and SEC-1000 (7μm) are a family of high performance SEC columns specifically designed for determining the molecular weight distribution and characterisation of water soluble polymers used in a wide range of products found in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food and industrial processes. Two columns with different pore sizes offer a wide linear calibration range of 100 to over 1,000,000 daltons. Columns are packed with small particle size, spherical, mono-dispersed hydrophilic polymethacrylate particles. CHROMABOND HILIC SPE Columns and Sorbent Zwitterionic silica phase for SPE of polar analytes CHROMABOND HILIC is an ammonium sulphonic acid modified silica phase for SPE, based on the same chemistry as the NUCLEODUR HILIC phase (see page 158). This zwitterionic polar phase has a pore size of 60Å, particle size of 45μm and ph stability of 2 8. Recommended applications include polar organic acids and bases, polar natural compounds, nucleosides, oligonucleotides, amino acids, peptides and water soluble vitamins. The water-rich layer formed on the surface of the adsorbent enables stronger interactions for polar than for non-polar analytes. Thus polar analytes are more strongly retained than non-polar compounds, the inverse to reversed-phase materials such as CHROMABOND C18. CHROMABOND HILIC is available in polypropylene columns and as loose sorbent. ACE C18-Amide Unique stationary phase Enhanced retention of polar compounds Alternative selectivity to C18 columns ACE C18-Amide is a new, uniquely designed stationary phase offering enhanced retention of polar compounds and alternative selectivity to C18 based products. The unique ligand design of the ACE C18-Amide incorporates a longer alkyl chain spacer between the silica surface and amide polar group that gives extra phase stability in eluents of ph 2-8. The longer C18 tail increases the hydrophobic mechanism of interaction compared to phases with shorter (C14 - C16) tail groups. 5 TOYOPEARL MX-Trp-650M Resin Multi-modal cation-exchange resin High binding capacity for IgG and other proteins Sharp elution peaks with mild conditions Excellent pressure/flow characteristics TOYOPEARL MX-Trp-650M is a new multi-modal cation-exchange resin, with unique selectivity and high recovery. It provides high protein binding capacities and tolerates high conductivity feedstocks. In addition to ionic groups, its ligand also contains hydrophobic regions. Thus, the binding of target molecules is determined by electrostatic and hydrophobic contributions. TOYOPEARL MX-Trp-650M is particularly suited for the purification of target molecules that are difficult to purify using common purification platforms. YMC-Omega LC Media Preparative media for polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) Enhanced selectivity of structural isomers of PUFAs Available in 10μm particle size The demand for highly enriched fatty acid fractions is rising. Industrial scale HPLC is the most suitable method for the production of high purity PUFA fractions from fish oils, for the pharmaceutical and dietary supplement industries. This new preparative media from YMC is a silica-based stationary phase specifically designed for industrial scale chromatography for the separation of PUFAs, such as Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. The phase has proprietary bonding and optimised pore size. It enables high loadability and high recovery of fatty acids. By selecting the most appropriate TraceGOLD Fast GC column, column performance and separation can be maintained while decreasing analysis time. For a given stationary phase, if the phase ratio is kept constant, then the selectivity can be maintained, leading to increased efficiency. This allows a similar separation to be performed with a shorter column length. Phase ratio (β) = column i.d. (μm) / 4 x film thickness (μm) For instance, the performance of a 30m x 0.25mm x 0.25μm column can be achieved with a 20m x 0.15mm x 0.15μm column in up to 30% less time. New Silica Based TSKgel Columns for Aqueous SEC/Gel Filtration Three new (U)HPLC columns for antibody analysis TSKgel SuperSW mab HR TSKgel SuperSW mab HTP TSKgel UltraSW Aggregate Tosoh Bioscience have introduced three new silica based (U)HPLC TSKgel columns for aqueous SEC/gel filtration, each designed to address a different aspect of antibody analysis. Both TSKgel mab HR and HTP have a particle size of 4µm and a pore size of 250Å. TSKgel mab HR offers the best separation of antibody monomers and dimers, whereas TSKgel mab HTP is UHPLC compatible, suitable for fast separation of antibody monomers and dimers. TSKgel UltraSW Aggregate (3µm, 300Å) is designed for higher resolution analysis of a wider range of high molecular weight aggregates. Guard columns for all three columns are available. 8
