He later went to study at Harvard University but dropped out without graduating to start a carreer in software development. He married Melinda French on January 1, They had three children: Jennifer Katherine, Rory John, and Phoebe Adele.Jennifer was born in 1996, Rory in 1999 and Peoebe in He was born on October 2, 1951 in Newcastle, England to Audrey, a housewife and Ernie, a milkman. From an early age, he knew he wanted to be a musician. He attended the University of Warwick in Coventry, but did not graduate. From 1971 to 1974, he attended Northen Counties Teacher Training college.
