1 Pontins horror stay left one-year-old with huge red sores from 'bed bug bites' By Emilia Bona 17 June 2018 A horrified mum woke to find her baby daughter covered in painful red sores after she was 'bitten by bedbugs' on their first night at Pontins. Emma Almond, 32, had booked a weekend break to the Southport holiday camp for her young family - but the trip was ruined when her daughter was left covered in bites. The mum-of-four booked the holiday as a treat for her children AJ Cullen, six, and 13-month-old Navaeh Cullen. After just one night in the holiday park, Emma woke to discover 'tiny black bugs' on her daughter's little body, which was covered in painful sores. 2 Speaking to the ECHO about her family's ordeal at the holiday park, Emma said: "They let us know they weren't checking in until 5pm because the rooms weren't clean. We got to our room and they were filthy. It was just dirty. "It wasn't until we went to bed that I thought anything of it. I put the bedding on, we woke up the next morning and I went to undress the baby and thought 'what's that?' Mum Emma claims a doctor told her little Neveah had an allergic reaction to whatever bit her in the family's holiday park room "There was a little black bug on her skin. I brushed it off her and didn't think anything of it until my cousin said 'she's got chicken pox overnight'. "I said I didn't know, then she had another bug under her arm. I said they look like bed bugs. I had seen them on Facebook." The stay-at-home mum said her daughter was left 'incredibly distressed' by the bites, which turned into painful sores all over her body.

3 Emma Almond took her children Neveah Cullen, one, and AJ Cullen, six, to Pontins as a treat Emma said: "She was distressed, she was throwing up and everything. She has been really poorly since we got back." Concerned at the state of her daughter, Emma took her to the nearest pharmacist in Ainsdale, where she claims she was told little Nevaeh had been bitten by some sort of bugs. She said: "I went to the pharmacist in Ainsdale and said 'what's this?' and he said the doctor is right next door and you need to go and book in because they're bites. 4 "I said I'm here on holiday at Pontins and he said you really need to go see a doctor. "He said it was some sort of bite, bed bug, ants, and she had an allergic reaction and that's why they were so big. I said we've not been on the beach yet, we've not started the holiday and it was already ruined. "He said it must have been in the rooms. They could have been on the floor where she was playing." The one-year-old was on a family holiday to Pontins in Southport when she was left with painful 'bed bug' bites Emma said she was 'appalled' at the state of the Southport holiday resort, where she stayed with her children and partner Dominic Cullen. The family arrived from Bolton on Friday, May 28, where they checked into a 'filthy' room that Emma claims hadn't been properly cleaned. After Nevaeh's nasty bites were discovered, Emma complained to staff at Pontins. he said: "I went to them and they said we will move you rooms. We were in 517 then they moved us to 463. That was absolutely immaculate the second one.

5 "They had scrubbed everything in that room - you could smell the beds had been sprayed - but obviously I wasn't happy." She added: "I'm absolutely appalled - I've only been there three times. My mother-in-law has been there all her life. In a year the place has gone to s***, I can't believe it. Neveah was left covered in bites after her first night at Pontins "I wanted to pack it up and come home. I couldn't because of my son. I was just shocked. "I was checking constantly to make sure the room was clean all the time. I even had cockroaches in the room." Emma claims she was offered another stay at the holiday resort as an apology for her family's experiences. She said: "I was in there screaming at them - they gave me a piece of paper and said I could have a free holiday as compensation. I don't want one!"

"We do note that Ms Almond brought her own travel cot and bedding to the park and dispute the allegation of bed bugs."
