1 UNICEF 2017 VACCINE INDUSTRY CONSULTATION October 2017 UNICEF Supply Division, Oceanvej 10-12, 2150, Nordhavn, Copenhagen, Denmark AGENDA INTRODUCTION UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories to protect the rights of every child. It operates in more than 130 countries, supporting governments to achieve a state where no child dies from a preventable cause, and all children reach their full potential in health and well-being. UNICEF Supply Division has a key role in procurement of vaccines and immunization supplies on behalf of 100 countries annually, supplying over 2.5 billion doses of vaccines in support of routine immunization programs, preventive campaigns, outbreak and emergency response activities. To maximise results, UNICEF Supply Division works in partnership with countries, Non-Governmental Organizations and suppliers. The Vaccine Industry Consultation provides information that prepares the vaccine market for future UNICEF procurements, and presents a platform for suppliers to contribute to solutions that optimize product quality, offer value for money and support end-to-end supply chain. The forum also engages with suppliers to discuss progress for ongoing and planned procurements. The theme for the 2017 Vaccine Industry Consultation will be Regulatory System Strengthening: operational challenges in response to suppliers who had indicated the need to have a more interactive discussion with stakeholders on challenges for suppliers on changes to country regulatory requirements when supplying through UN Agencies. Additional objectives for the VIC are to provide vaccine market updates to the industry; integrate the consultation with the Vaccine Procurement Practitioners Exchange Forum (VPPEF) to foster constructive discussions between Middle Income Country representatives and the industry; and update on the status of access to affordable vaccine for humanitarian emergencies. The first day (October 5 th ) of the Vaccine Industry Consultation will be dedicated to informative and interactive plenary sessions, including presentations by UNICEF and partners, followed by a panel discussion on Regulatory System Strengthening. The second day (October 6 th ) will feature vaccine market updates in addition to a series of sessions running consecutively. The main benefit of these sessions will be to generate reactions and reflections on specific topics by increasing participants ability to attend sessions that are most relevant to their interests and allocating sufficient time for Q&As and in-depth discussions. A Market Place with overviews of all the vaccines UNICEF procures will be available throughout the day, manned by UNICEF staff to respond to question by suppliers.

2 Specific objectives 1) UNICEF Update To ensure the industry is updated on the latest developments in programs and procurement from UNICEF (both Supply and Program Divisions). 2) 2017 theme: Regulatory System Strengthening To provide constructive discussions on current regulatory challenges and strategic options to be considered to further improve in-country access to supply. 3) Partner Updates To provide an opportunity for partners to update industry on recent developments and initiatives to achieve the goal of supply security of quality assured, affordable vaccine. Expected outcomes of the meeting 1. Industry is informed on upcoming tenders and specific vaccine market updates. 2. Industry is informed on program direction, including EPI, humanitarian emergency responses and emergency stockpiles that will influence vaccine markets. 3. Suppliers are informed of structural changes (i.e. Freight Forwarders and terms and conditions of agreements). 4. Regulatory related issues are presented and concrete solutions are discussed. 5. Partners and industry are informed on innovations led by UNICEF in procurement to meet the programme goals and objectives, including those of the Gavi Supply and Procurement Strategy , and ensure the most optimal products are available for children. 1 P a g e
