Thank you to all of the parents and carers who attended our Parents Forum meeting on Monday and engaged positively in all the discussion topics. The minutes of the two meetings will be published soon on our website and in the school newsletter. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting which will be in the Spring term. We had a discussion about children giving sweets to their class to celebrate their birthday. Previous coversations about the sharing of sweets discussed alternatives such as stickers, pencils and other food items such as homemade cakes. It was agreed that the practice should not change and that it was up to individual families to choose whether to participate in the giving of a birthday gift. At Parents Forum on Monday, a parent asked if it was possible for there to be Clarinet lessons in school. To offer lessons, County Music Service require a minimum number of children. If your child would be interested in learning to play the clarinet, please contact the school office. Many thanks

Lunchtime cakes and puddings At Parents Forum on Monday night, a parent was concerned about the amount of sugar in the cakes and puddings that were offered by County Caters at lunchtime. We have contacted County Caterers and they have given us the following statement: Our Menus follow the School Food Standards as issued on The section dealing with food high in fat sugar and salt states that no confectionary, chocolate or chocolate coated products can be served. Desserts, cakes and biscuits are allowed at lunchtime. They must not contain confectionary. We abide by these guidelines. Our cakes and biscuits are homemade and the recipes use the least amount of sugar possible so as not to detract from the overall quality of the product. We use cocoa powder and try to incorporate fruit, oats, wholemeal flour, grated carrot and beetroot into many of the desserts. The standards require fresh fruit to be served daily and a pudding containing 50% fruit on at least 2 days per week. We use several dessert recipes recommended on the school standards web site. The aim of the standards is to provide our customers with a varied balanced meal to provide the energy and nutrition they need across the school day.

Date Class Wednesday 21st October Thursday 22nd October Wednesday 11th November Thursday 12th November Wednesday 18th November Thursday 19th November Wednesday 25th November Thursday 26th November Wednesday 2nd December Thursday 3rd December 3L 3R 4G 4S 2W 2AH 5B 5W 6T 6A Year 1 will be holding a Christmas Craft afternoon in December date to follow soon. KS2 Climbing Frame Can we please ask, due to the changing weather, that all children have a coat with them in case of wet weather. Please can all coats be named. You may have noticed, that the climbing frame on the KS2 playground is currently cordoned off as part of it is damaged and needs repairing. We are looking into repairing or replacing.

The children in Foundation have been learning about the Muslim festival of Eid this week. Mrs Uddin talked about how Muslims celebrate and showed us some of the beautiful clothes they wear. We were also able to taste some pakoras, samosa and traditional Indian sweets. The children have also been writing 'Happy Eid' cards to take home.

Friday 2nd October Year 4 will once again be supporting the Macmillan charity. They will be holding biscuit and cake sales for the whole school, a coffee morning for year 4 parents and friends, and this year we would also like to extend our invitation to Foundation parents. In addition to this there will also be a raffle. Please support Macmillan and the hard work that Year 4 are putting into these events to make them a huge success. Donations of prizes for the raffle and cakes and biscuits (nearer the coffee morning) would be gratefully received. Many thanks in advance for your support, Mr. Gimes and Mrs. Snatt Biscuit sale There will be a biscuit sale on Thursday 1st October at break time. 20p for a plain biscuit and 30p for a decorated biscuit. All proceeds will go to Macmillan.

The Iron Giant Children in Year 4 have been using interesting vocabulary to describe the 'Iron Giant'. Here is Joseph Buckley's excellent writing, featuring some fabulously descriptive words and great similies! The Iron Giant is an enormous colossal mechanism. The Iron Giant is muscular, sturdy and brawly. The Iron Giant has big feet for crushing large and strong metal buildings. The Iron Giant has a giant head with two eyes that glisten like the moon. Well done Joseph
