4 SNCP in broiler flocks National control programme for broilers is operational since 1 January Aim of the SNCP reduction of S.Enteritidis and/or S.Typhimurium, to 1% or less in broiler flocks In Slovenia SNCP covers all broiler flocks intended for slaughter. Exception: flocks of broilers where FBO supply small quantities of fresh meat from such flocks to final consumer or local retail establishment directly supplying such fresh meat to the final consumer (5500 broilers/year)
5 Structure of the industry 348 holdings for broiler production / 2200 flocks per year Majority of holdings have agreement with large BOs (92,5%) approximately animals per flock broilers slaughtered per year broiler flocks are not vaccinated Compensation not provided for broilers flocks

7 Flocks of broilers Sampling frequency and sampling protocol Regulation (EC) No 2160/2003 Regulation (EU) No 646/2007 I. Sampling on the initiative of the business operators within 3 weeks before the birds are moved to the slaughterhouse (each flock is tested) two pairs of bootswabs are taken tested as one pooled sample
8 Flocks of broilers Results of the are available before animals are slaughtered Approximately 25% of flocks is tested two times (3 week period is exceeded because of the thinning) Possible derogation to sample at least one flock per round on holding with several flocks: BOs shall submit an application for derogation to VARS (no derogation till now)

Official sampling At least one flock of broilers is sampled on 10% of the holdings each year holdings with less than 5000 birds are included in the official sampling Additional risk based official sampling (e.g. positive flock) Official sampling, if OV considers it necessary

Positive flock: if presence of SE or ST is detected in the samples taken by BO or in the official samples Measures if SE or ST is detected (National rules) ban of the movement of the animals except for slaughter or killing/destruction if flock is slaughtered: as a last batch heat treated meat products (or destroyed) meat can be used only for OV at the slaughterhouse must be informed at least a day before slaughter cleaning and disinfection of the house; prior to the placement of new animals the bacteriological control must be carried out
