1 Clarion For Student Life Our vision is that every student with a disability receives expert, consistent support so that they can have the best possible chance of employment on graduation For education providers working in further, higher and adult education

2 Clarion the expert service We do more to keep your students supported Asking for help can be difficult, but the right kind of support can mean greater autonomy, empowerment and improved study skills for the student. That s why Clarion provides a wide range of services designed around your individual student s needs giving them the tools that will last them for life. From help with notetaking, proof reading, personal care, exams, study support or mentors through to putting together a team of interpreters to work with Deaf students or support for complex and technical needs. A more personal service We understand the importance of trust that is built up through a personal relationship, so we know it is important to find someone the student will get along with, who will be professional and sensitive in all their work. A trusted service You can take reassurance from the fact that all our support workers are fully compliant with enhanced DBS checks, insurance and audit needs and that we work to standards set by ISO: and the Care Quality Commission. Recommended by customers nationwide, trusted by the police, courts and local authorities, all our workers are trained to the highest standards so you can expect an expert service. An innovative service We love technology, gadgets and geeks, which is why we have won awards from Microsoft Dynamics and for our employment service. In this digital age, services can be accessed remotely by the student using our bespoke software. This includes access to BSL interpreters or speech to text for hearing impaired students.

3 We do more for students with physical disabilities We can provide any level of assistance needed and by providing practical support are able to deliver packages of support that are respectful, discreet, and ensure the student s dignity at all times. We use a person centred approach, enabling people to reach their potential and speak for themselves so that their voices and actions are seen and heard, freeing the student up to achieve their ambitions. Providing reassurance We work with students needing personal care, assisting with hygiene, feeding, communication, classroom support, lifting, medication, recreation or whatever is needed. They can work as part of a team or on their own, and are used to working in multi-disciplinary teams. These workers work to guidelines set by the Care Standards Commission and all go through rigorous screening, training and EDBS checking or higher. 4 We do more for students with specific learning difficulties We have over 20 year s experience working with people who have Asperger s syndrome or are on the Autistic Spectrum. We also work with students who have dyslexia, dyspraxia or dyscalculia as well as those with ADHD or ADD. They may have recently been diagnosed, or have received support since childhood. Our philosophy is one of working with rather than doing for and we are very sensitive to the needs of students to be independent and to be seen as independent by their peers. Our trained, experienced and PATOSS registered workers work with students at their pace and in a way that gives them agency, control and power, whilst also giving them the tools to build successful academic or vocational careers. We can meet the student on campus, at a place of their choice and work with them in lectures using the latest technology and our bespoke software. 5 We do more for students with visual or hearing impairments As the largest BSL/English interpreting agency in the UK, we have the widest pool of Communication Support Workers for Deaf, Deafblind and hearing impaired students. Only 36.3% of deaf children in England have reached GCSE benchmarks compared to 65.3% of their peers according to DfE statistics in The aim of gaining parity at tertiary education level is one that is only achieved by the use of registered and experienced BSL/English interpreters or Communication Support Workers for more vocational courses. Not just a normal agency As well as the more standard needs such as notetakers, written notetakers, STTR, teachers of the deaf and lipspeakers, we are experienced in dealing with complex needs for students who may have fluctuating needs on a day to day basis and provide communicator guides, orientation training, deafblind manual interpreters, Block, Braille and Deafblind hands on. We can also deal with rare requests such as foreign sign languages and transcription. 6 We do more for students with mental health issues Our UK wide team work with students who may be anxious, depressed or have significant psychological challenges requiring support so that they can have equality of access. Our 1:1 mentors and specialist study skills tutors have backgrounds, degrees and postgraduate qualifications in mental health including psychology, psychiatry and counselling. They also have proven track records and membership of appropriate bodies such as BPS or PATOSS. Our company vision and values mean that students are supported in ways that are meaningful to them, giving them unconditional positive regard, and confidence building or counselling if necessary in line with ethical and professional boundaries as well as more pragmatic life skills such as building a toolkit of support, study skills, recognising symptoms and managing medication. 8 Using technology to level the playing field For your students British Sign Language Video Remote Interpreting Service Clarion s online Interpreting Service helps overcome language barriers quickly and affordably by bringing a fully qualified and NRPCD registered BSL/English to you, remotely at the click of a button. You do not need any expensive specialist equipment to use VRI; a computer, webcam and access to the internet is all you require. For your website attracting more students British Sign Language Video Relay Service Clarion s Video Relay Service ensures equal access for current and potential students by using our VRS service - meaning they can call you and make enquiries through your website, in real-time. They can also have the flexibility of making applications in BSL with our bespoke transcription service. BSL/English videos can be made for your website to bring it up-to date and ensure it is equally attractive for anyone who looks at it. The captioner will be a skilled electronic notetaker or palantypist and will provide the student with a verbatim transcript of all that is said via a secure internet link. Each student will view the text on their own laptop which allows for individual customisation of display settings and font sizes.
