1 Summer Hands-On-Workshop (HOW) Salus University offers two four day workshops every summer at the Elkins Park campus. The goal of these workshops is to provide an update on advanced and current science in the specific topic of study for the workshop, review clinical implications, and provide hands-on training using the tools and techniques discussed in order to improve clinical practice. The workshops are designed to have an immediate impact on the participant's clinical service delivery and are taught by faculty who are distinguished by their expertise. 3 Class sizes are limited. Advance registration is required. After this course participants will be able to: 1. Explain the auditory and non-auditory effects of noise. 2. Describe the characteristics of noise-induced hearing loss. 3. Select an appropriate hearing protective device, and evaluate effectiveness. 4. Compare advantages and disadvantages of available hearing protective devices and describe methods for selecting types (using attenuation, lab and real-life rating methods, selection, and regulatory requirements) 5. Relate noise dose, time-weighted averages, noise levels, and duration of exposure and noise annoyance criteria 6. Compare advantages and disadvantages of available hearing protective devices and describe methods for selecting types (using attenuation, lab and real-life rating methods, selection, and regulatory requirements 7. Describe the similarities and differences between music as a source of sound-induced hearing loss, and more general noise as the source. 8. Describe risk-rates for music-induced hearing disorders, and identifying which disorders are most salient to the musician. 9. Prescriptively fit hearing protection 10. Develop strategies to modify hearing aid settings to satisfy the listening needs of musicians with hearing loss who would benefit from amplification In order for attendees to successfully complete the course they must attend all activities and complete all assessments as indicated. *In the instance that this Summer Workshop is cancelled or rescheduled: Salus University reserves the right to cancel courses, change meeting places, or make other necessary and appropriate changes to the continuing education schedule. Courses that have not met minimum enrollment prior to the start date may be cancelled. Registrants will be alerted to the cancellation or rescheduling of an event via and on the Salus University website. Refunds of registration fees for cancelled or rescheduled continuing courses are subject to the following requirements: 1. If a course is cancelled, the registrant automatically receives a 100% refund. 2. If a course is rescheduled, the registrant may (1) apply the registration fee to the new course date or (2) receive a 100% refund. 3. If the registration payment was made by credit card, the cancellation refund will be credited to the credit card account. 4. If the registration payment was made by check, the cancellation refund will be sent via check to the address provided on the CE registration form.

4 Event Cancelled by the Registrant Registrants may cancel their participation in a CE program in advance of the start date. The following parameters will apply: 1. If a registrant cancels before July 1 st, 2016, they will receive a full refund minus a $25 adminstrative fee. 2. If a registrant cancels after July 1 st, 2016, there will be a $200 cancellation fee. 3. If a registrant must cancel at any time due to a medical emergency, he/she will receive a 100% refund of the registration fee if the cancellation request is accompanied with a note from a physician. 4. If the registration payment was made by credit card, the cancellation refund will be credited to the credit card account. 5. If the registration payment was made by check, the cancellation refund will be sent via check to the address provided on the CE registration form.
