5 2What is a Patient Education System? There are over 40 Million people living with untreated hearing loss. Perhaps the most important job of a hearing health care provider is to educate patients on the importance of investing in the right hearing loss treatment. With lots of uncertainty coming our way (i.e. OTCs, Managed Care, Big-Box Pharmacy Hearing Aid Outlets, etc.), now is the most important time to find a way to differentiate and get your message through to your community. But. How can you possibly find the time to effectively communicate the importance of treating hearing loss with every prospective patient your community? How can you possibly find the time to nurture and educate every current patient in your database? How can you possibly find the time to reach out to every tested not treated patient in your database? Unless you have a team of 100+ people ready, able, and willing to do this for you (or you somehow figured out cloning) it is just not possible. 6 While I have not met every hearing health care practice owner, I can say, unequivocally, that I have not met a single practice owner who has the time, or the person power, to make these things happen. Below is a simple equation to estimate the lifetime value of a patient: Initial Investment + Future Investment (upgrades) + Investment from Referrals = Lifetime Value The average ASP of a current AUDMA client is $5,800 per patient (per pair). If we use $5,800 and insert this value into the equation and take a conservative approach to the # of upgrades and the # of referrals, the lifetime value equation is as follows: $5,800 (initial investment) + $11,600 (patient upgrades technology two times) + $17,400 (3 referrals that invest in treatment) = $34,800 Is the lifetime value of your patients close to $35,000?
